Google opened its first flagship store in Japan in Tokyo's Omotesando district at 2 pm on 13 August. It is also the company's first flagship retail location outside the United States. An opening ceremony was held earlier in the day at the new Google Store. The shop sells Google's latest smartphones, offers repair support and gives visitors a chance to try the newest features available on Pixel devices.
One demonstration area focuses on the camera's zoom function. Visitors approaching a display can enlarge an image by up to 120 times, revealing details such as the facial expression of a dog being taken for a walk. Google is entering an area already home to directly operated stores from Apple and Samsung's Galaxy brand. The company said it hoped the Omotesando flagship would also help improve its services by giving it more opportunities to communicate directly with users.
