To Tomino and Mrs. Reita--
What makes Tokio Hotel Japanese rocker wannabes?? Yeah, I've heard of them before, and yes, they aren't that great a band, but wannabes? If it's because of their name, that's pathetic. What about all the Japanese bands with French names?
As for their style and music videos, so what if they sound and look like the things you hear in Japanese rock music? It's music, for goodness sake! Of course it sounds similar! Things are bound to sound alike, regardless of the nationality of the band.
Japanese rockers aren't that different or special. Yeah, of course there are certain bands in Japan that are original in certain ways, but so much of Japanese rock music today is influenced by the rock music coming from Western countries like America and England. It's just borrowing ideas from other countries, and it goes both ways. Even many styles in Japan like Gothic lolita are inspired from the West. Punk is also a big influence, musically and stylistically, and that originated in England, right?
I don't know much of Tokio Hotel, but have they ever even mentioned Japan other than that's where they got their name from? And even if some bands have Japanese rock influences, that doesn't make them Japanese wannabes. What if I join a band one day and list Japanese band influences? Does that make me a wannabe? How about all the Japanese rockers who list American bands as their influences? Are they American band wannabes?
Sorry if this post is like a rant, it's how I type when I feel strongly about something..
And shouldn't you be happy if, perhaps, they are influenced by Japanese rock? (which I doubt)
