A former love hotel in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, has been converted into an apartment building, offering 12-tatami studio apartments with kitchenettes and separate bathrooms and toilets for a monthly rent of 32,000 JPY (including 3,000 JPY for utilities). The flats are on the second floor, while the first floor has a garage with roller shutters for each apartment. Hotel Nokyo, out of operation for a while, was a love hotel with an unusual agricultural theme and minibars stocked with a selection of seasonal vegetables that guests could take with them.

I guess they preserved the privacy angle--renters can go direct from the shuttered parking to their apartments?

Also, other than the veggies, not sure what an agri theme would be in a love hotel. (So I won't make any comments about cucumbers, carrots, or daikon...)

Secondarily, apartments where someone has died are stigmatized. Would a place where someone is conceived have the opposite karma?

I was wondering about that private garage access, too. Pretty convenient in Hokkaido's harsh winters. I'm not sure I'd like to live in a room with *that* kind of stigma, though.

I would think that those rooms would be a bit small, even by Japan standards, for someone to live in.

Looks very reasonable by Japanese standards for one person especially with its own bathroom, separate bath and a garage.

When I first got to Japan , being a Maine hick , I made a lot of stupid mistakes. My first one was thinking how groups of Japanese people always took the time to say "Hi" to me and I wave and say "Hi" back. Another big goof I made involved a "skivy hotel". A Japanese girl who spoke a little English asked me to go to a hotel with her because she always wanted to make love to an American. After a few drinks , she started to look much better and when she said she would pay , what the heck , I volunteered my services. We got in the room and it seemed like I must be dreaming all this , with dark red lighting and mirrors everywhere. Well , we got down to business and she started yelling out the names of her husband and boyfriend(at least that's what my drunken brain told me). Later I learned Suki & Daiski were not names and I shouldn't have got so mad at her and left. Never did see her again , LOL.
