Hello,
I am moving to Japan in September, because my husband is an engineer and his Visa aloud me to be in the country and to do some types of work, but they just told me about teaching languages, but I don't have any teaching degree, I am an environmental engineer and my mother tongue is Portuguese.
Someone help me with this issue?

Shop yourself around to different companies. Your visa allows you to work in the country, if you can find work within the scope of your degree then you will be ok. Are there any companies in the area that are from your home country? If so, look them up for possible employ while you are here. The environmental laws in Japan are not all that different than most countries.

If you have a University degree you'll probably have a good chance of finding work in Japan. I believe that in Japan it's not as important as in Europe to have a job-specific degree, so I'd search around Google (can you read Japanese by the way?) and look for any jobs related to your mother tongue Portuguese.

Sounds to me like you have a dependent visa. This alone does NOT allow you to work! Please be VERY clear about that. You need to file for permission to work on that visa, and it will allow practically anything, but only part-time hours. Immigration Services Agency of Japan

Plus, if you earn more than a certain amount (roughly 1 million yen, I think), your husband cannot claim you on his taxes).

Hm, I have a friend from Italy who is in a similar position as yourself. Try going to the portuguese embassy - there might be some opportunities to teach portuguese part-time or even full-time.

About teaching english, since it's not your mothertongue, this might be more difficult..

For what it's worth, I have an American friend working here as a teacher, and his Thai wife is on a dependent visa. She teaches private classes in Thai cooking and dancing and makes almost as much as her husband. So, you don't have to be concerned about teaching English or looking for an engineering job if things don't work out.

How's your English level? My first language is Dutch, but I am teaching English at elementary schools. So maybe you can have a look on that.

What degrees do you have?

My English is ok, but I don't have any diploma shoulf I make some exams to prove it?? And one thing that I am afraid is the fact that my japanese is not the best, so how can I teach in this kind of stuation??
