Emily is not the only bilingual American in Japan, there are so many. My company alone has more than I can count at the moment. I've also met one black dude from Africa and some French people who were also fluent. I even remember seeing a Bloomberg video of a foreign president of a company speaking in fluent Japanese during an interview. So fluency in Japanese is a growing trend.

I'm not sure why some people feel threatened by this. They leave nasty messages below Emily's youtube videos. My comment for them is, "Grow up, man or lady. Use the time to improve yourself rather than wasting it on showing your poor character. Ijou desu."

Caroline from Chicago

Here's another foreigner fluent in Japanese (sorry, no English subtitles). Her name is Caroline, and she lives in Chicago. She began studying Japanese at the age of 16, five years ago. Her command of the language as well pronounciation seems about perfect.

This guy claims to be actually Japanese, and he has a plausible story and convincing accent to back it up. Some of his videos are quite funny, you should take a look at them.

The guy in this video is runnyrunny999, who appeared briefly in the Youtube Gathering vid posted above.

Here, he shows us how to make nikkujaga, the ultimate Japanese comfort food (along with udon or curry rice or a number of other dishes). His cooking looks so simple and delicious that I'm sure you'll be tempted to make it after watching this vid.

(I thought about posting this in the food section instead of this thread, but Sammi's vid (above) was about cooking, too.)

I can only say I am jealous of these people that are not Japanese and can speak Japanese, the girl from Chicago is excellent and sounds very nice. With my computer repair business I don't have alot of spare time to dedicate to learning Japanese, I have had very few Japanese people I have done pc repair and I have wondered if I have offended any of them because I don't know many customs.
 

If you were doing your work in America I'm sure they wouldn't expect you to act outside of your cultural sphere. I've seen a couple of her Japanese language "lesson" videos. She seems to have a pretty strong command of the language but I'm no native speaker. I think her big "secret" for coming to Japan is she wanted to become an idol. It was mentioned on one of her videos where she was on a Japanese TV program.
