今日だって他の組関係者と話し合いに呼ばれて居ないん だ

I translated this sentence as

"because today, the other important people didn't call to meet"

I have a feeling this is laughably inaccurate. If it is what's the correct version and where did I go wrong?

Also today, s/he is not here since s/he is called to a meeting with other member(s) (of the organization.)

組関係者 seems like "member(s)/concerned person(s) of the yakuza organization," right?

Yes it is. So is 呼ばれて the passive form of the verb and if so is there any sort of cause/effect clause or is that implied? I.E. the から in the following sentence:
他の組関係者と話し合いに呼ぶからいないんだ。

呼ばれて is the te-form of the verb 呼ばれる, and 呼ばれる is the passive form of the verb 呼ぶ.
The te-form in that sentence expresses "reason," so yes, you can also say 他の組関係者と話し合いに呼ばれたから/呼ばてれるから居ないんだ. (呼ばれから is used for future tense.)

Oh I get it! One learns these things for four years and then promptly forgets it all.
