Hi everyone

Three days ago I took a home pregnancy test , which shows Im pregnant .
Me and my boyfriend (japanese) decided that we want to go through abortion.
Im still in my second week of pregnancy.
To tell the truth , right now I want to finish with abortion as soon as possible , the last 2 days all I could do was think about it and cry , I cant take this pressure no-more..
Right now we , or maybe I , have one big problem .
We cant find a place around TOKYO that does abortion for less than 10 man en. . it is very expensive to me.. I know it is not the time to think about money right now , but still...

Can anybody help me ????
 
Are you going to elope? Your dad won't stay calm I believe...
 
Really ? I'm surprised. I've heard they were places to do it for like 8 man en. You may be able to get it cheaper outside of Tokyo. The best thing, though, is to ask through a nearby OB/GYN clinic if you haven't already. Because I think abortions are done there also in Japan. Not only in specialized abortion clinics.

Yes you can get it for as cheap as 6 man 5 sen en in the yamaguchi-ken , but from where I live its too far and not worth the trip.
I think there must be somewhere around 8 man en in Tokyo

I wish I could help you, I really, really do. Most unfortunately, I cannot...being so far out here in the sticks. I have been through the situation which you now face, from the other point of view, of course, and can understand. Also, having shared emotions and feelins with one of my sisters in such situation has also opened me to how the feminine side feels.

I really, really wish for your best. My suggestion would only be, if you need to borrow the money to do it, please do so, because sooner is so much easier than later. I apologize for not being able to help out more. MM

MM thank you for feeling for us. I know abortion is not a nice thing , all I expect from people around me is bashing , and probably I diserve it to have reached so far , but I really appreciate the comfort you gave me..

Yes I will do it as fast as I can ... it is possible I will try to do it tomorrow , I am still looking for the place though..
I dont want it to grow any bigger before Ive done abortion.

The morning-after pill prevents the ovary from attaching to the uterine wall. It's not abortion in a bottle. If Suki-Yaki is already pregnant, the morning-after pill would be about as effective as a sugar cube.
 
Well, I hope a lesson has been learned. At age 20 (she's six months older than my own daughter), one would expect that she'd have enough sense to use protection. Sometimes people have to learn the hard way.

What I find interesting is that this is the same girl who (two years ago) was freaking out over being seen naked in an all-female onsen and who said, "Yikes!" over learning there's mixed onsens.

Sorry, I just have to speak up against this, since this is a common misconception: preventing implantation is a VERY, VERY minor effect of the morning after pill, and is similar to many other medications in this regard (in other words, it is not the effect that the pill operates on)

The morning after pill in actuality is just a high dose of regular birth control pills. The pills prevent ovulation, which is why they want to be used as soon as possible after sex, and why it's not 100% - if the egg has already been released, there's nothing you can do.

It cannot be construed as an abortion in ANY sense. It prevents fertilization from taking place.

I didnt know at all about the morning after pill , it Is different than the abortion pills though , yeah ???

Those pills cause several danger side effect to the body they are not sold in Japan
 
I apologize for the misinformation, but despite the mistake about preventing implantation, I believe was still correct that the morning-after pill has no place in this discussion, as it would do nothing for our young friend.
 
Once you get this episode over with, you really need to educate yourself on what's available in contraceptions and, which is most important, use them.

In an age where it's dangerous, if not fatal, to indulge in unprotected sex, you really need to protect yourself if you really expect to have a good future. I wish you the best.

Well, actually it does. Unfortunately, our young friend caused herself needless grief when it could have been prevented. I hope she learns from this experience.

Since she's my daughter's age, I am speaking as a father.

Perhaps it might behoove her to consider the morning-after pill in a future instance if she neglects to use BC, but it would not help her in her current situation, where it's already passed as a plausible course of action.

Although I do think it is reasonable to ask questions first such whether she/he/they were on a method of birth control that failed or had chosen a less reliable form as a preferred option...etc. as background information before jumping to too many conclusions, regardless of your opinion of Suki-Yaki personally....
 


A reasonable point. However, one is led to assume that none was used as the thread started with the unfortunate result she's facing. Also, her responses to regarding the morning-after pill leads me to think she knows very little about contraception. You're right on one point, even the pill fails on occasion (I know a gal who has a 9-year-old boy to prove it).

I have no personal opinion since I don't know her except for what's she's posted in the past. Frankly, this situation can (and all too often does)
happen to anybody. I just hope she learns from this experience.
 
You're probably right as well. Although I would bet most Americans are either unaware that an abortion pill exists or how the morning after pill works (evidenced from other answers...) or both and would also rather not admit to mistakes from their own lapses in contaceptive use. In other words, it may be a less a problem of mechanics or education and more of behavior.

Either way, the question of a place for abortion referrals was relatively straightforward so I hope that it has been resolved (for want of a better phrase...) and lessons have have been learned. Judging from her response, it obviously wasn't news that was taken at all casually.
 
I think the bigger problem will be your dad, if you have/had to break the news to him. Good luck !! And DON'T forget to use condoms in the future (and decent ones, not that Japanese garbage) !
 
Suki- I've been in the same situation you have- my wife actually. In the U.S. you won't find anyone who will perform an abortion before the 4th week, it's probably the same in Japan. So you're going to have sit tight for a couple weeks and >try< to relax.

The first thing your Gyno will want to do is confirm your pregnancy- if you just took one home test, there is a small chance of false positive. Your doc will confirm the pregnancy.

If RU-486 is an option where you are, you can (and most likely will) have bleeding for about a week or more. It is NOT the preferred method if you want to get the procedure over with quickly and get back to your daily life. The other methods are a suction or vacuum aspiration or a traditional D&C, (all are relatively safe procedures) and most are significantly recouped in about 48-72 hours.

Your Gyno will (and should) explain everything to you before the procedure.

I know it'll seem tough, but try not to worry.

Ahhhh Suki-Yaki......

a cyber hug for your difficult moment. I for one feel honored that you share your life so openly with us here at JREF. I remember when you first joined you had just compleated high school and dreamed of going to Japan. I guess you can look at this as another one of life's lessons to learn from and move on. My one worry is something like this may not be the best thing to go to the cheapest doctor. Also make sure close follow-up is part of the treatment, you want to make sure you can have children down the road, and don't suffer from bleeding or infection. You might want to get some counseling as this can be a lot to deal with emotionally. Best of luck Suki!!
