Could someone explain this please....

I was looking down the list of new posts this morning and under the heading last post it read Today at 07:46 by the the member name underneath it. In this case it happened to be someone named strongvoicesforward
I went to the thread and this strongvoicesforward person had the "last" post on the topic but the post was made May 02, 2006. Oh and this member was "banned" or at least that what their title had written there.

Well anyway how could the "last" post be made by a banned member and well over 6 months ago, show up under Today's posts?

It was a bit confusing and a bit of a waste of time as there was no new update or post on the thread, the only thing I could figure out was that someone may have voted in the poll on the topic, but if that is the case why is the name of the last poster used to say that the thread was updated, when in fact there was no new post on the thread.

Shouldn't the members name voting on the poll be listed as the "last" update?

In another thread (Why does Japan suck so much) the issue of whether or not a foreigner should criticize Japan was raised. One poster said that it is inappropriate for someone to criticize someone elses country, while I felt that it was perfectly reasonable to do so, so long as you could back up what you were saying.

What do you think? Is it OK for foreigners to 'bash' Japan, and if so how far can you go before you go too far?

The name listed is, as you have surmised, the last poster, not the last person to do anything in the thread. Poll voters don't really contribute a lot to the discussion just by voting. It's a little annoying that the thread shows up as a new post when someone votes, but the world isn't a perfect place.

Sometimes there is nothing that can be done.

I guess the program that runs JREF is a canned software thing that is updated and changed by the company that owns it. Seeing as it is a "software in a can" type thing, there is only so much you can do with it. From the problems that have popped up over the past year or so, it seems not to be perfect for everyones tastes, but pretty good over all. My guess is a lot of buyers would have to ask for the same changes to be made before the company would bother. Just a hunch, don't know solid facts about it.

Since vBulletin runs on PHP, one would presume that the Admins could make changes to the software as they see fit, but it would require someone proficient in PHP or at least with a decent knowledge of programming to make the changes.

Well seeing as how neither a moderator or administrator has replied to this post I guess it isn't too high on the "things to do list".

Btw who actually "answers" these types of questions? Not that J-bot guy now is it?

well, since your question was already answered correctly, there was really no point in repeating the answer. also theres many other threads on this same subject, check out the search function.

whoever reads the question first and knows the answer, usually.
