Is there many bugs in Tokyo? Ive been to China and Korea before and they had many large bugs, and many to look out for. Does Japan have any insect problems or posionous insects?
 
Oh, yes. They have all kinds of bugs, some of them are huge too.
I've seen a moth size of my hands. Mosquitos are pretty vicious in the summer. The centepedes have a very powerful venom that can make you seriously sick.

On the bright side, Japanese beetles are populare in the market, so if you catch them, you can get a lot of money.
 
But.. no spiders? I'd go anywhere to escape these hirrible jumping wolfe spiders or w/e they are ><;

g..g..iant... moths? x____________X
 
But i mean, if your going to somewhere like Tokyo or Aichi to be xact, would there be alot of these bugs? And is there spiders?

I dooo so hope you're not coming here on the JET program. But to actually answer your question the ratio of insects to city dwelling is on a par with that of the UK. Only we rarely, if ever, see cockroaches in the UK - plenty of them here though.

Out in the sticks it's a bug-fest. I live next to several rice fields. Loads of insects, and the spiders that prey on such creatures. But I have central air-conditioning so the little buggers rarely get inside. And then there are the cicadas....
 
The cicadas were pretty close to deafening last summer at all the places we went to. I noticed a spider at Lake Kawaguchi what was a bright yellow.
 
gokiburi,yeah, but if you keep your house clean i guess it shouldn't be a big problem?
Also the spiders, same thing. At least I didn't have any problems with bugs last summer, and I certainly don't regard them as my best friends

I actually miss the sound the cicadas make, especially at night time..
 
Japan, being a hot and humid country, is full of bugs. There are bugs everywhere though really.
Although as mentioned by others - keep your place clean, keep your screens closed, you'll be fine. We don't have hardly any bugs inside our house.

I stayed at a flat in Hong Kong for a long term assignment once and if I left even a drop or crumb of food, the kitchen would be overrun with tiny ants when I got back from work. I had to take the trash out every morning.

Hokkaido has had a really good summer this year for bugs. The exceptionally long snow season last winter has really kept the numbers down this year.

i see spiders all the time but i live in nara.. and they jump a lot. the coolest bug i saw was a praying mantis in hyogo. it was so cool it was destroying some spiders nest
 
Saw this evil looking thing in my first week in Japan back when I lived in Saitama.



The black thing at the bottom of the picture is the toe end of one of my (large) boots to give some kind of scale. It was probably about 8-10 centimeters from tip to tail.
 
I assumed it was. Your previous comment reminded me I still had a picture somewhere.
