Benihana's Kills a Man?

um...ok...that was nuts.
how ya gonna sue a place because of someone's natural response to duck. that is dumb. so, in the end, he was killed by a shrimp, not the benihana restaurant chain
 
Amazing ... Amusing ... Asinine -- sometimes it is just impossible to keep a straight face while reading the news.

Does anyone remember about 10 years ago, when a person sued McDonald's because the coffee was too hot? The customer had purchased a cup of coffee at a McD's drivethough, then suffered 3rd degree burns when she spilled coffee in her lap while driving.

Back when it was in the news, I made a joke about the incident to a lawyer friend of mine. He immediately got up in my face, defending the legitimacy of the suit. Uhhhh ... let's see -- hot coffee, full cup, moving car, no common sense -- whose fault?
 
A shrimp killed a man, that was new! Yeah, I remember the hot coffee case against McD some years ago...it resulted in printing a warning on the cups "very hot" or something.

Sometimes I doubt whether people can think logically at all, as these types of cases by ignorant people result in warnings which are obvious by "normal people": very hot coffee, or: don't dry your pet in microwave....

People sue for money quite often in the United States no?
 
i dont think ppl will want labels on their flying shrimp, tho.
people would prolly sue shrimp if they could....esp ppl w/ allergies.
 
Definitely, Miss A. people sue over here quite often, and sometimes the lawsuits just don't make any sense.

One of my favorite Cover Your A$$ labels on a product is the tag on hair dryer power cords warning customers not to use the dryer in the shower -- I suppose that someone actually had to have done that in order for the perceived necessity for a warning label!!! An American comic, Bill Engvall developed an entire stand-up routine dealing with such as this, entitled "Here's Your Sign".
 
It's certainly a widespread perception that Americans are lawyer-crazed idiots. I don't personally know anyone who's sued for money, though a friend might have to soon, because her upstairs neighbor's bathwater completely ruined my friend's apartment walls and ceiling, and the neighbor won't pay for it.

Anyway, as for the Benihana's thing...how do you say "frivolous lawsuit" in Japanese? It would be one thing if our chef's shrimp had been flung with such force as to pierce the deceased's eye and penetrate his brain, causing instant death. But no.

This case should have been thrown out on the face of it.

ditto...my friends mom sued a place for money. i personally dont want to involved with the court system unless necessary.
 
when I first saw the thread I asumed it was a skater doing the benihana and failing.. miserably... But it wasn't... it was just some dude dieing from flinching... what a stupid way to die... I bet the other angels are laughing at him.

I Love love love Japanese food. I'll have to check it out.

Tommorow night we're eating with some friends at Sakana in Scottsdale. They yell Irrashae (however you spell it)! as you walk in. The sushi is pretty damned good and the atmosphere is ok. I think Sushi on Shea is a LOT better, but it's pretty danged expensive.
 

Who doesn't remember that ridiculous lawsuit. Proof positive of the trouble that comes from living in such a litigionous country as the U.S.

Well, Bob, for starters, ambulance chasers have no sense of humor, I should know. I'm from Philly and this town produces 'em faster than rabbits juiced on Viagra. Your laywer friend probably dreams at night of getting his hands on a nuisance lawsuit like that.

I mean, really, anybody who drives with a cup of hot coffee is just begging for trouble. Then there's the flying shrimp attack! I'm probably wrong, but I'm sure I might have seen that move on a Saturday morning chop-socky flick!
