Very good! How do we say in japanese "Your english is very good", and "Your japanese is very good". i know it involves 'jozu'. Elizabethsan told me, but I had to erase my messages for room. <--

I am also having troubles with katakana. How do I put a video games like "Mario kart" in katakana. I have trouble with what vowels to use.
 

I wish my japanese was as good as them..hehe

Anata is not rude if you do not know the persons name.
If you know the person name who you are speaking to then do not use anata.
Anata is also used among Married couples and lovers to mean "darling or dear"

GCL looks like that sentence is correct. I would say it is more "Do you want to learn english" More of a direct question the a suggestive question.

Katakana takes practice for us because it is completely based off how the word sounds and not spelled. LIke my name:
Damian in katakana it would not be ダミアン Instead it is デーミアン。

うらやましがる (to be/feel jealous)
うらやましがらない (to be/feel [not] jealous)
うらやましがらないで (don't be jealous)

あなたは英語を学びたいでしょうか？ is what you were saying with
"Would you" rather than straightforward "Do you" and hence more polite.

Your English/Japanese is good. あなたは英語・日本語がとても上手ですね。
 
ところで、「うらやましい(羨ましい」は、相手をほめる意味でよく使うと思います。

I think urayamashii is often used as a way of complimenting the other person. (or at least that is how I've seen it used).

言われた方も嬉しいだろうから、ネガティブの意味がそんなに強くないでしょう。

Because the other person might be happy it is said, the negative meaning is
probably not so strong.

There isn't an invariant direct English correspondence, but I prefer to think of it more like well-natured envy than jealousy....if that helps at all. Still wishing I could live near some real mountains, though.

However, with japanese chat, even though I do not understand most, I am learning hiragana and katakana very fast! It is wonderful.

My japanese is good? Eh, yeah right. Not really. I really get mixed reactions form the native japanese people (As far as I can tell). Some say it is good, most say it is bad. Here is the usual way they say it:

なにもおかしくないっすよ、アメリカさん、そして私の日本語も微妙ですから

I thought 'okashii' meant 'odd' but it can also mean 'difficult', 'unreasonable'.


Amerikasan is my name.

I do not understand this completely, however, I can guess:
nani mo okashi kunaiisuyo. (Referring to me), and my japanese mo difficult complicated desukara

Nani = what. mo = also
What is also odd, (kunaiisuyo I do not understand), my japanese is difficult. Perhaps he means japanese is a difficult language.

The other person said:
紅毛人（こうもうじん）の真似、大変あるな
Foreigner no (copy), it is grave/serious.

Hmm, I'm not used to seeing foreigner spelled like that, interesting.
I suppose this means, strictly translated, "Copying of foreigner, it is serious'
I am not aware of the verb copula, aruna.
 
なにも = nothing
おかしくない = not strange/funny (negetive form of おかしい)
っす = です (just how it's said in speech)
そして ＝ and/plus
微妙 = subtle
--------------------------------------------------------
紅毛人 = Red-haired man/foreigner (I've NEVER heard this before lol)
真似 = imitation

Looks like "And because my Japanese is also subtle" Kinda Hard for me to translate that sentence into natural english, too many add on words. @_@
Should probably something following or something before it. Was there more to that sentence GCL?

今まで私はまだ山によく行きませんが、時々私と友達は山でドライブしに行きます。
Until now I still do not go to the mountains often but, sometimes me and my friends go driving at the mountain.

今年のハローウィン車をクラッシュしました。
This Halloween I crashed the car.

それは残念事でしたでも、最近車を直しました。
That was too bad but recently the car has been fixed.
 
それは残念（な）事でしたが、最近車を直してもらいました。(This is a correction)

この事故が山で起きたの？

ハロウィーンの夜でしたか？ちょっと冒険みたいですね。

車が電柱かなにかに衝突しましたか？ Did the car crash into a lamp post or
something ? この車の衝突で犠牲者は出なくて良かったですね。 It's good that no one (out walking) was killed...And I hope it wasn't too expensive to repair either. 修理にも費用がかかりすぎないよう、速度が落ちてくださいね。

I wish someone will correct my japanese, but no one wants to and tells me to go 'study it' instead. Damn it. I have 40 dollars now from christmas I will go buy a good book if they have any. I only want a really good one. I don't think damicci or catawata or whoever he was is gonna send me the book. :emoji_astonished:

何かあったの？I will be glad to correct it and I'm sure others will as well, you do have to keep reminding us what it is you're writing, though ....and I'm in the middle of a letter to my tutor at the moment so probably tomorrow. I just think people have probably been away for the holidays and a little more off then usual.

If you want to reply to the letter in the other thread, though, you can answer how you intend to spend the new year....
