A friendly word of warning to everyone here: If you haven't seen "The Village" yet, here's some advice for you:

DON'T!!!

Talk about a dog with fleas! And that's an insult to both dogs AND fleas! Despite all the hype, M. Night Shamartist's new movie was a serious disappointment. It wasn't the least bit frightening (hell, I've gotten more chills from watching the evening news) and the plot twist near the end regarding where the villagers really live is borderline ridiculous! Never had I wasted my time more at the movies then I did when I watched that slop!

How in blazes that train wreck grossed 50 million in it's first weekend is a mystery to me. So, if you hate wasting your time, steer clear of "The Village"!

I AGREE100%!!!!!!!!!! It is by far the worst movie I have ever seen in my life. Me and a couple friends were all excited to go see it thinkning it was gonna be good cause all the hype. It is the worst movie ever made.....seriously i'd rather watch river dance.

Wow....that the film is that bad is a surprise to me considering the previous great films made by the same director....I saw the trailer some few days ago and thought it looked cool....oh well, maybe I'll go and watch it anyway and make my own opinion.... However, I do appreciate the feedback...it is useful to read about films "not to watch" here as well, instead of recommendations to go see a film.

And you think Swept Away was good? THAT is by far the worst movie ANYONE has ever seen. Given the choice between that and taking my wang, dipping it in liquid nitrogen and then smashing it with a hammer, I think I'd go for the latter.

I know you didn't mention Swept Away as a movie you've seen, but you seem like the type that has seen many a film in your day.

Well, I guess that would depend on your definition of great. Now that I think about it, M. Night Shamartist's last flick, "Signs" wasn't exactly a cinematic masterpiece either. Sure, it was a helluva lot spookier than "The Village", but the thing with the aliens bugged me no end.

I mean, here you have these nasty E.T.'s who come millions of lightyears to Earth to raise hell, and yet they couldn't get through a wooden door? Where were their ray guns? And water kills them? Jee-zus! If those aliens came to town during a thunderstorm, that's all she wrote!

Somebody needs to tell M. Night that he ain't all that!

That is true...haha..The film "SCARY MoVIE III" did a parody on exactly that, which was hilarious!!! Did you see?

No, of "great" films he has directed are in my opinion "The sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable" (ah...Bruce Willis...yum!).

I missed "Scary Movie 3", but I'm glad to know I wasn't alone in that particular line of thought. Meanwhile, I liked "The Sixth Sense" which was pretty darn original, as for "Unbreakable", it was okay too.

I sensed that a great opportunity was lost with "The Village". The acting was good, the atmosphere in the beginning was excellent but at a turning point some where half way, I felt that the movie went downhill rapidly. It's hard to top "Six Sense" and the director has more or less painted himself into a corner with this twist gimmick. "Village" was more of a Twilight Zone movie stretched too long. I second the original poster - avoid this flick.
