I agree with ArmandV. Taxis are way too expensive for sightseeing. Your best, and cheapest, bet would be to use the 7-day rail pass as suggested. You would be broke after sightseeing one day in Japan by Taxi!
When I go round sightseeing spots in a group, I think that a taxi is cheap.
For example.
I go round noted places of Nara, and it is a course for five hours.
A rate is 28,000 yen.

It is 3,112 yen per one.

You are quite correct Nagashima-san. It is quite cheap travelling by taxi in a group. I forgot about that. Thanks for bringing it up. However, I think this poster is travelling alone or with one other. But, if they are travelling in a group, then taxi would be the easiest way to sightsee and quite inexpensive by comparison.
