Am I blacklisted?

Hope this is the right spot, I am not sure where else to ask.
Firstly, I am a canadian citizen. I accidentally overstayed in Japan one day. I had to pay a fee at the airport, which I was told was for extending my visa. There was no mention of me being not allowed to re-enter for any ammount of time. In my passport there is nothing stating I am blacklisted. There is a canceled stamp on my temporary visa and an extension permit for the day I left.
My boyfriend called the immagration(customs?) office twice. The first time they said it was unusual to pay a fee and if they did not say I was blacklisted it means I am not. The second call they said they were unsure. Does anyone know what is true?
I am unsure where to call to find out for sure, I tried to look it up but can't seem to find an answer. Does anyone know where I would call? Or is the fact that there is no mention in my passport or by the immigration people thatnI am not allowed back mean I am free to come back?

I have a hard time believing you'd get blacklisted without being told directly. That all said, I also have a hard time believing you "accidentally" overstay by one day. Best thing you can do is contact Japanese immigration. They have contact numbers on their website (in English). I think JREF can't really help you with this.

Thank you. That is essentially what I am looking for, along with information from anyone who has gone through something similar. I have checked the site but I have never had any issue like this before and I was unsure where to call. This will sound silly, but do you know if I contact the immigration bureau or the immigration information center, or somewhere else? The information center says they have had many "wrong calls" made, and I am not sure exactly where my enquiry falls.

I can understand it sounds stupid to accidentally overstay a day, and admittedly it was. Though I am not sure why it feels you think I would knowingly risk the stress I am feeling now for an extra day in Japan rather than just coming back for 90, haha.

A person I met about 6 years ago in Tokyo (so things may be different now) had done this also, but for 3 days I think he said.
He was on his third trip back to Japan since that incident so it didn't seem to restrict his ability to enter as tourist.

When he overstayed, he was taken into an office and questioned for about an hour but he didn't mention having to pay anything extra.

He lives in Hong Kong and visited Japan at least once a year.

It is strange indeed that you had to pay anything at all. I wonder if you ran into some unscrupulous immigrations agent back then.

Overstaying usually means being banned for reentry for 1 or 5 years, depending on the offense and the mood of the immigrations agent. If you are 101% sure you received no notification of being banned, then you got off lucky.

When was all this, anyway? Did you sign any apology back then?

The fact that immigration gives you 2 different answers is also disturbing. Call again. Explain the other 2 calls.
