In August 1995 I met a wonderful girl called Akane in Fukuoka. We had such a happy time together. But because I had to go back to Switzerland and the distance, we lost each other. I promised her to always remember her and I still think everyday at her. And now the time has come, to show her, that I never forgot her.

I don't know if her family name still is Yamashita or if she's married now. At that time she lived at


4-13 Minamisho
Sawara-ku
Fukuoka 814

Should we really be leaving the woman's name, home address, and home phone number publicly posted here as well? It isn't as though she has consented to it.

I didn't notice Cyril posting his own full real name, home address and home phone number, interestingly enough.

I thought about it and for sure I'll try it. But because of the following reasons I tried it first in the internet. I know I try to make it easy for me, but I hope there is someone who would like to help me or knows something about her.

- I thought it's easier to ask here, because if someone would like to help me, maybe this person has the possiblity to check the phone book (unfortuantely I can't find a phone book in the internet like I can find for my counrty) and can tell me, if the Yamashita-Family is leaving there. Yes, I could write a letter, but it takes a time until I would get an answer from someone (Akane or maybe the post office brings it back), so I hoped someone could tell me if the adress belongs to Yamashita family.

- Akane was in 1995 there for studying and stayed in a hotel with two of her friends. So I don't know if the address she gave me it's her home address or it's the address from the hotel. I tried to find the address in Google maps, but without understanding Japanese, it's impossible for me to find that address there.

- I can't speak Japanese, so I'm little worried to call, because I can't talk if there is not an English speaking person get the call.

I'm terribly sorry if I shouldn't post her name and address. I didn't know about that. I thought it's easier if I give the people who like to help me as much information about Akane as possible. If it's helpful of course I can also write down my full real name, my address, phone number and anything which helps to find her.
 
Your story bought back memories for me Cyril .

Years ago I came to the JREF Forum looking for an old love ,Yoshiko , from Fukuoka. Someone bought up an intresting point about contacting an old "lover". What if she is now happily married with children? Would her Japanese husband be really angry with her over an old boyfriend? What if her husband/friends/family did not know about her "gaijin" lover? As much as I wanted to contact her, I decided I did not want to cause her any trouble or embarrassment and gave up on the idea. I sure hope she "lived happily ever after though".

Thank you for your thoughts. I thought about this already by myself and you could maybe be right, but...

Even if she is happily married: It's not my intension to cause any trouble and I can't imagine what's the problem if an old "penpal" just say once "hello" (nothing more, nothing less). I'm also happily married, have a wonderful wife and a really nice daugther (9 years old).

On the other hand: What if she's not married (maybe even if she is married), just living with her parents. Maybe she would be very happy to hear from an old "friend"?! I would be happy if a lost person would contact me (if this person just says "hello").

Of course there are a lot of other possibilites, a lot of "if". But I'll never know, if I don't try to find out. And so I want again to ask all the people, who like to help me, that I would very appreciate it. Thanks a lot.!
 
She is happily married with 3 kids. And she has 8 grand kids as well as 13 great grand kids. Last time I talked to her she was going to throw a ring into some larva to stop a guy called Sauron, but her time became increasingly difficult due a a person called gollum. But don't worry , I am sure the eagles will come to her rescue.
 

Sure, that's a funny possibility, but I'm afraid this doesn't bring me even one step closer to contact with her.
 
Write a letter! Pick up the phone and call!

You have the address. You have the phone number. Why are we expected to put more effort into solving your problem than you are?

You've waited sixteen years to bother contacting her again. So what if it takes a week or two to hear back from a letter? If it's so urgent and you're so infatuated with her, PICK UP THE PHONE AND CALL. You've already given the whole world her phone number. Putting a girl's number in the Internet shows even less respect and regard than writing it on a bathroom wall.
 
Mike, I never said you or anyone else here have to help me, I just asked for it. You and everyone else can decide by themself if they can or want to help me. And I accept if you or anybody else can't or decide wont help me. That's no problem, just don't need to answer.

When I found this forum I thought here are people who like to help you. Also I thought it's ok if I ask some "strangers", if they can have a look in the phone book or consult Google Maps.

When I read your responses I feel like I did a criminal act or something like that, so it makes me feel like my thoughts of this forum were completly wrong?!
 
Cyril, there's nothing wrong to ask for help, but in this case you've got her old address and phone number.

My concern is that she may not like her privacy (most Japanese people do think their own address and phone number are the big parts of their privacy) disclosed to the public without any warning, and being a female, I'm sure she'll shocked or scared if someone who is a total stranger to her contacts her, even with a good intention to help you.

I'm sure she'll be delighted to hear from a old friend like you regardless she's married or not, so why don't you try to contact her yourself first?
If both sending her snail mail and calling by phone failed, then you can ask people what is the possible way to contact her...

It never was my intension to ask here somebody to call that number. I just hoped somebody had the possibility to check the phone book and see, if that address belongs to the Yamashita-Family or if it's the hotel, where Akane stayed at that time. So I would know how much chance I have with a phone call or a letter...

Well, ok I'm going to call or write her. If I call this number and there is only Japanese speaking person (I can't speak Japanese) is there a good advice how to handle this call?
 
Cyril, Japanese Yellow Book only lists the contractor's name, that means the book shows only your friend's father's name.
And one can request the phone company not to show the number to protect the privacy (especially from the sales/commercial purpose), many people chooses this option these days.
The word "danchi" in the address means it is an apartment house, so the address should not be of a hotel.
 
That address is not a hotel. It is a group of apartment buildings. Within a few seconds I was able to find it on a map. If I lived nearby, I could walk right up to building 15, go up to the fifth floor, walk down to #504, and knock on her door.

Cyril, I would like to contact your mother. Please give her full name, address, and telephone number in this thread so I can do that. No? Then how about your sister? Would you give us her full name, address, and telephone number, please? I'm sure you don't see any problem with that.
 
I understand why you want to put her address so that someone can help you, and find out if she still lives there but image you are surfing the web and seeing your address on the web? What would you think about that? I have edited the address because of this.

Please give us an update after your tried to send a letter or call her. If you have any questions feel free to ask us anytime!

I couldn't image that it's such a problem to post the address. My address and phone number you could legaly find in the internet, the whole phone book with address and phone number is printed there an everyone can have a look at it. So I'm sorry for that.

@mike: Unfortunately we can't call my mother, because she passed away 13 years ago.
