Because I have hard times putting a sentance together with not know if there is an of, a to, and, too, be, as, the 't in can'T, or something like that. I have around 20 sites for studying this language, and not one of them disclose this.

It is hard as English and Japanese does not directly translate itself well.
If I'm not mistaken there is no Japanese word for 'a' or 'of'.

ひがし 、 ここ に
'higashi, koko ni'
In direct translation it says: ''here's east'' ( 's being possessive ie: Dave's car )
But we would translate it as: east of here.
いち ねん の ききん
'ichinen no kikin'
Direct translation - ''Famine for one year''
we would say: A year of famine.
*Please correct me if I'm wrong about any of this.

It's dependent on context like Elizabeth said. Maybe easier to try not to think of using of as a in blah blah in a Japanese sentence. try to remember the correct particle required to say what you want.
