120 seconds rule

I wanted to post some messages quickly, when I got this message:

This forum requires that you wait 120 seconds between posts. Please try again in 87 seconds.

I thought YEAH!! This should keep those evil spammers out!! So in essence I'm very happy.

But.. Is it possible to lift this constraint for members with, say, 100+ posts? Sometimes I'd like to post more than 1 per 2 minutes (especially when welcoming new members, which I would like to do as quickly as possible)..

Anyways, a big thanks to whoever who came up with this brilliant idea!!

I think the Member Introduction area ought to require even longer between posts.

Although I applaud some members' efforts in extending a warm welcome to newcomers, sometimes I think the forum exists more for the purpose of padding post counts than greeting newbies.

Currently, that's not possible. I will further inquire into it.

I actually like it lots. Is the rule in which you have to have more that 20 characters to posts new too?

I've seen where people zipped through and dash off generic, thoroughly impersonal "welcomes" at the rate of two or three per minute. That's about as meaningful as being the greeter at a reception desk and not even looking up as people walk in.

I do find the 120 second rule EXTREMELY IRRITATING, though.

Instead of just saying hello, you can type some more, so that they would feel themselves even more welcome

Give some indication that you actually bothered to read their introduction and tried to get to know them, in other words. (Not saying you don't do that, but a quick "hello" and a generic greeting gives no indication that you did).

I also don't have a problem with the concept of an introduction but find it more than a bit off-putting for greeters to admit to not fully reading the post or to wanting to get through them as quickly as possible.

All those phony greetings are the reason I almost never participated there and why I currently have that subsection totally blocked....thank heaven for that capability.

I appreciate that you're in something of a pickle due to the bad behavior of a few bad eggs, if I may be allowed to mix metaphors. But I do hope that in the future a different solution may be found.

What about limiting the number of posts in particular period of time?
For example, one cannot submit more than 5 posts in 12 hours, maybe 10 posts in 12 hours? I just said those numbers randomly and I'm sure admins and mods here can talk to each other and figure out the suitable numbers for the posts and the hours.

Just kind of thinking about it a while--I just cannot find waiting 120 seconds, so much of a problem. Perhaps that's because I have almost never posted faster than that other than when talking to you know who--J Bot.
I can understand how it would bother some. I fully agree that some sort of 'barrier' should be in place for such trash that I also saw that one time. (mentioned by Thomas)

As for the greeting newcomers to the forum, I also agree that it is a very important thing, and it is, actually, in the guidelines of Jref to do so. That, I feel, kind of makes it a 'duty' (gim) type thing though. I do it from the heart, myself; and I recall how happy I was to get even some of the simple replies that I did when I had joined up.
Of course, it may not be for everyone, and that's fair too, I'd say. [my two yen's worth]

I think the 120 second rule is a good ideas

But while it stops bad people online *the prats new name*

It also stops you from posting as quick to cover him up would it be poss to skedadle the rule for those with so many posts i wonder?

It is a bit annoying. I tend to type very fast. And I always get some message saying wait Blah more seconds. Although it really isn't a big deal.

i agree with previous post... i think it is good idea, and i don't mind it cause i do not post so much... but was irritated yesterday when i was in a bit of a hurry

It's a tad annoying having to wait 2 minutes interval for next posting for a fast typer like me.

I mean,did it deter uninvited quests on Japanese Reference forum.
