ok this I need to know from those who live in Japan, How come sony ports Final Fantasy on PC that uses a microsoft OS and not include the XBox system which ports that same OS or even Unix? I mean the xbox is almost a PC clone if you think about it.

Well, Sony believes that PC users are different from console users.
Sony wants the console users to stick to their own system, the Playstation 2.
I don't blame them. The Final Fantasy series is a very good reason to buy a PS2.

Technically it shouldn't be a problem of course. They'd have it running on the Gamecube if they want to. But that's just it. They don't want to.

ya I guess your right but Final Fantasy starteed out on Nintindo first. and Now its cameoing back on with a different version. The question is if version12 is the last game, will they make different sub version like crystal cronicals for the xbox and nintindo in the future?

ok so what does everybody think about the possibility of the PS3 being all network? I think it may pose a problem since we as computer lover know that networks crash or catch viruses.

The PS3 will probably have it's own operating system, which nobody but the licensed software houses have dev-tools for. There's always a risk of bootleg copies or reverse engineered dev-tools, but i'd say the risk is minimum. Sony could patch up it's machine on the fly anyway if it's on-line. It would probably also have a build-in firewall against flood-attacks.

I don't think it will be network-only though. Single player games are still a class of their own.

your right about the licensed software houses having the dev-tools for sony. And I believe thats were sony has the market right now since most of the games come straight out of Japan. This makes Microsoft travel a rocky road that they seem ready to conquer anyway. Like I just saw a presale of Yu-gi-oh for the xbox. Now that goes to show how the Japanese third party software companies are really seeing the potential of the system.

as for sony patching up thier possible future system, if they don't make it right, it may be thier down fall as we all know that the ps2 suffered numerous problem becuase the system was made cheaply to beat out the Dreamcast. yet successful in that area, I don't think they were aware that Microsoft
s plans to enter the game console market. Wich leads to the point since Sega and Microsoft had a small partnership, I think Sega bowed out due to the fact that Microsoft had in the works a system that would blow out everybody technologically. So they decided to step aside.

Now we have to see what kind of next gen. systems microsoft and sony will drop on the market. the psp is already to damn expensive! let hope they have play worthy games for it.

Well, Sony's plans are to make a system for every room of the house and make them all interconnectable. Any future systems would go along in that line. Especially when you think that they will interconnect any other Sony appliances with those systems as well. It's the next step towards a totally networked household.

Entertainment will only be a fraction of the possibilities. Convenience will be a huge part of it though.

Let's hope not... I think Sony is smarter then that.

For the XBox on the other hand...

Last i heard, Square hated microsoft.

Apparently, MS want to buy square, but square refused. Then MS tried to forcefully make square make games for them, and square had the MS representitives escorted out by security.

Or atleast that's how the story goes. I heard that from a Nintendo representitive when i worked at gamestop.
