Man, Steve vai is awesome I just got a couple of his songs in particullar "for the love of god" it's great, and I also heard he is really popular in Japan just wondering your thought.
thx.

I was like the biggest Steve Vai fan ever when Passion and Warfare came out. I still listen to that album once in a while. I can see why he would be popular in Japan, it seems like the 80s never went out of style there.

Also, I just noticed your sig... I will also occasionally listen to old school Metallica. Everything after And Justice for All was crap IMHO.

I met him once. I cried like a baby, I was so happy.

So yes, I too, love Steve Vai.

I like some of his stuff; other stuff is a bit too out there for me (at least from what I remember). He is a great guitarist, though, that is undenialble. I believe that he can do things on the guitar that no other human can do (owing to his HUGE hands, I think he can stretch from the 12th fret to the 20th or something ridiculous like that).

Anybody like Dimebag Darrell or Marty Friedman?

I haven't heard much of his solo stuff, unfortunately. All that I really know of him is with Megadeth (but there is some really good stuff there).

If you like Vai check out a guitarist called Eric Johnson.
Oh my gawd he is such a clean player with chops to burn.
"Ah Via Musicom" is brilliant.

Here is a link enjoy:

Early Marty Freidman stuff with Cacophony is raging if you can find it.
He did some early stuff with late guitar great Jason Becker.
Some stellar guitar work there as well.

Considering we are on a Japanese site, I am assuming you know about Akira Takasaki from loudness.

If you dont, shame on you and do a google search.

Another ragingly talented guitar player.

me, me! I like Steve Vai! 🙂 (can't believe I only just noticed this thread, lol).

'For the love of God' is one of my favourites of his. But the first album of his I ever heard was Fire Garden. I like 'Aching hunger' off that one. Not sure why, except it just makes me feel like a teenager again... ☝

His guitar playing is like awesomeness x 10,000. It's quite depressing in a way - y'know, "maybe when I'm about 90, I'll be able to play one-quarter as good..." or something like that...!

Sometimes get a teeny bit arty for me, though. Anyone listen to the Flex-able album?

He never played with Megadeth, thank God. You must be thinking of someone else.

He is one of the most brilliant musicians alive and probably has the greatest talent for music transcriptions. He transcribed Frank Zappa's "The Black Page" sent it to Zappa and was offered a gig which he had for many years. His guitar teacher was the great Joe Satriani.

Later he played with David Lee Roth's band and also in Whitesnake.

He now has tons of solo albums out.

Steve Vai Foreva!!!

Just noticed this thread. :)

Yeah! Steve Vai is great! 👍 I have all his albums. My favourite ones are ツ'The Fire Garden', ツ'Alien Love Secrets', ツ'Ultra Zone', ツ'Passion and Warfare', ツ'Sex and Religion', ツ'The 7 th Song'.

ツ'Flex-able leftovers' sucks (sorry for being blunt). :) However, the song ツ'F*** yourself' is not so bad. :D

I have several his videos. My favourite one is ツ'G3 in Denver' (Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen). Yngwie Malmsteen has grown so fat! I hardly recognised him. His music hasn't undergone any change. Yngwie has turned into a lazy fat animal. :) Yeah, he is a good guitar player (in some sense). But he is a bad musician, composer, etc... His monotonous neo-classic music can drive anyone mad! :D

I want to buy ツ'G3 in Tokyo'. I can't find this video. Has anyone watched it? What's your opinion?

ツ'He never played with Megadeth, thank God. You must be thinking of someone else.'

Yeah. Perhaps, of Dave Mustaine? :D

ツ'I will also occasionally listen to old school Metallica. Everything after And Justice for All was crap IMHO.'

Glad to find a Metallica fan here! 👍 I am a Metallica fan since 1996 (i.e. about 10 years). IMO, ツ'The Black Album', ツ'Load' and ツ'Re-Load' are very good. In addition, ツ'Garage Inc. 1,2' are great! But ツ'St Anger' really sucks. :) I think that Metallica has changed since Cliff Burton's death. The following albums were not as good as, for example, ツ'Master of Puppets' or ツ'Ride the Lightning'. Even ツ'Kill'em All', IMHO, is much better than ツ'The Black Album'.

I think that Metallica, Pink Floyd, Steve Vai and Jimi Hendrix are the best events in Rock music. Of course, its my own opinion. :) Someone would probably mention Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden or even ツ'The ****ing Prince of Darkness Ozzy-The-Hell-Osbourne'. :D

By the way, have you listened to the music by Mattias Eklundh? Oh, he is a great guitar player. In some sense, I like his music more than the music by Vai. Those who know about guitar playing will appreciate Mattias' creative work.

My favourite guitar players are Steve Vai, Mattias Eklundh and Jimi Hendrix. Necessarily listen to the music by Mattias. I'm sure you'll have a great time!

yes, i have watched it. Hmm...i love 'G3 in Tokyo' than 'G3 in Denver'...
because John Petrucci is cool...hehehe....^^ 👍
Damage Control and Glasgow Kiss are sooooo ear-cathcy...suki desu >.<

I do - he has got some very cool guitar riffs and I have a very old poster of him too - so yeah I like the guy a lot. His music is great to hear.

I only remember him from the SKYSCRAPER album by David Lee Roth that he played on.
He had very beautiful Michael Bolton-esque thinning hair... wavy and luxurious.
