I've been trying to get my hands on the original Macross TV series released in 1982. I'm a huge Macross fan and wanted to add Macross to my anime collection.

I've searched around the net and can only find one place that has it. It's 225 USD, and I would need to pay additional customs and tariffs since I live in Canada.

Does anyone know where I can get a better deal or know of any place where I can get it in Canada? I know there are tons of pirated editions, but I'm looking for original copies only.

Maybe, try Discountanimedvd.com, they're probably not legit, but they're cheap! I got my card captor sakura DVDs from them, fast shipping, although the subtitles for the ccs would be all like misspelt... OOPS!

Ebay.com too lol

discountanimedvd.com sells bootlegs, you basicly sacrifice quality especially in the subtitle dept. theres alot of bootlegs on ebay too...

damnit... well the quality was pretty good on my ccs, it was very good :) I actually paused and started drawing right off of my TV :) although it would be cool if I could fix the mess ups >.<

Edited for profanity...

most of it has to do with the english subtitles if you speak japanese it would be fine and im sure the chinese subtitles are good. i think the GTOs had little to non existant subtitles for like 5 episodes. just be aware of what youre buying...

Yeah, thanks Jeisan, also, kekeke as you can see i'm on a roll on posting :) I just wanna be in the thousands along with u and some other ppl kekeke :)

lol no worries, and from what i can tell not all of what discountanimedvd.com sells is bootlegs. looks like the domestic stuff is prolly good, as are the graphic novels. but i dont know for sure as i havent bought any of those...

Thanks guys'n gals... :)

yeah, i noticed that discountanimedvd has both bootlegs (50USD) and originals (225USD) for macross. I'm prolly going for remastered originals as i'm a super macross fan. It's interesting that there's such a huge price difference between the two...

i'd say the bootleg, because after you watch it, its not like your going to be addicted to it like heroin... I mean... dont take that the wrong way lol

Its a better series than most of the stuff that is coming out right now. The Animego remastering is worth the money although the box art on the bootlegs are better. My friend has the box set and its his prize possession. You will not be able to find it under 200 I guarantee that unless it is a bootleg. Anybody who has bought it won;t give their set up unless they are desperate for $$ and Ebay usually sells it out a high price. If you are a true fan, I'd say splurge on it, you will not be dissapointed. I haven;'t heard of any place in Canada that sells it, but I have heard that Best buy sells it or something to that end

Type Zero don't think that having 1000 is something special. I have only 200 some posts but the amount of text I have written probably puts me well over a 1000 when you compare me to other people. If you are posting for the sake of just getting post numbers, please don't. I'd consider it almost like spamming because it just clogs up the posts. I think that people would rather see you post 5 posts that a relevent and thought through, rather than 20 that are short and have little to do with a conversation.

I should say that the remastering is ridiculously well done, by far the best I have seen and though that may be biased, its true. They were able to widen the picture on the remasters so you get more than what people were able to see on TV in the 1980s. They also remastered the colors and the Subtitles are reaaaaaally well done. I'm telling you BUY IT. I would but I keep going to buy the new Hasegawa Models that have came out lately... probably could of paid the equivalent for the box set but I'd rather build the models and borrow my friends DVDs. (and a Strike Valkryrie is just sooo cool)

Thanks, I am thinking of getting the 3 AnimEigo box sets from here after the new year. Hopefully there's going to be a boxing day special or something.... I'm not going for the bootlegs as I'm a huge macross fan and can really notice the difference in the remastered version.

oh, btw; I've checked Best Buy as well, too bad they only have Robotech; the subbed domestic version.

I'm also into models too, especially Gundams and Macross although there are not too much "good" Valkryie model kits over here in Toronto.

Speaking of Valkryies with Super or Strike packs attached, they are pretty darn cool. Right now I'm playing this imported PS2 macross game (Link) and I must say that it has been developed much better than the domestic version (created by bandai US). Upon completing the game, the VF-4 which paves the road for Macross 7's Valks and the YF19 in Macross Plus can also be used. (VF-4 page)

Gosh, talk about cool planes :)

I do know somewhere in the US they are selling Anime ego sets... I'll ask around. Steelfalcon is not a good place for info, its got continnuity holes like you wouldn't believe Mahq does a good job (Mecha Profiles | Macross) and the best place to go is the Macross online compendium, (http://www.anime.net/macross/) which is actually supported by Big west and is the bible of Macross.

For the new Sega game, you need to get S on all the stages to get the good stuff. The Game itself was supposed to have the SV-51 and VF-0 from macross zero, and the Yf-21/19 from Macross plus, but it didn't in the final version. It looks like the next one might. It sold really well in Japan so it looks like there might be a sequel. The VF-4 is a pretty sweet fighter, but its evolutionary decendent is only the VF-19, not anything else. The YF-21/VF-22 come from the Queadluun-Rau also known as the female power armor, and the VF-11 from the VF-1. The VF-17 was really in its own lineage, but you could say the VF-14 probably influenced the design.

The Sega game is pretty sweet, but I personally like the older PS-1 game Digital mission VFX2. The VF-19 and 22 were ridiculous in that game as well as the VF-17.

i'm no spammer, but you see when I post, I try and post a lot :) because I get so busy, or I get so darn bored at my house >.< I need a hobby... wait thats sleep!

Yeah, it's so hard to get S on all the stages though, especailly in those stages where you need to protect macross in a specified amount of time. Using the VF-4 might help but sadly, the game doesn't log records for the VF-4 as it is still considered a prototype system for the original Macross series.

Wow, I can't wait for the next version, as they will probably have the more modern YF21/19, or the VF0/SV-51 from Macross Zero...
