I wanted to know what reminds everyone of Japan, being in Japan, or things in relation to it.

For me, whenever I smell cigarettes (I don't smoke) I get the feeling i'm back in Tokyo, especially since my city right now has a smoking-ban and it's illegal to smoke cigarettes in most places with exception to outside and your own home, so when i'm around my university and walk past someone that is smoking I totally get taken back. I also get reminded of Japan whenever I go in a tanning bed, but not for being tan, rather the smell afterwards is always one of the last things I smell before I go on the airplane, so now when I go tanning i'm always anxious as if i'm going to Japan soon and I am, so I guess when the day comes around that I go tanning and have no plan for traveling I'll be reminded even more.

Heh, great question. At the moment, I would have to say anytime i'm flipping through the channels watching TV and I catch some program that's showcasing Japan (or any of it's particular aspects) whether it be National Geographic Explorer, Travel Channel, or even the Food Network's weekly broadcast of "Iron Chef" reruns.. The worst for me though is when I pull out all my old photo albums and print club books and start reminiscing about days gone by... Oh, and there's a really great restaurant near me that has what is probably the closest thing i've ever found to authentic Japanese cuisine (definitely a rarity in these parts, heh).

Did you see the travel channel program that was like all about Tokyo and they were all in Shibuya, Shinjuku and Harajuku? It was sooooo funny, I love how they pronounced Harajuku , "hair-rah-jookoo" but that was a great special, and that other one where they had like um foreigner hostess girls experiences with Yakuza and stuff, but I think that was on Discovery channel, and then also like that King of the Hill episode where they go to Tokyo and the kid in the cartoon gets hit on by this Japanese girl playing DDR and she keeps asking him to take purikura together, what else, oh yeah I saw on the sci-fi channel the other day this old Godzilla and he was knocking over Tokyo Tower in Roppongi and I flipped out like crazy, speaking of Godzilla on Comedy Central the new Dave Chapelle show had a skit called "Blackzilla" it was really funny cause Dave was all bigger than the city and it had all these asian people running around, so then it showed these japanese cops with guns trying to shoot him, so he grabbed an industrial smoke-stack pipe and a bunch of treee, took a bong hit and blew smoke on the japanese cops like Godzilla would blow radioactive charges and all the cops fainted saying , "oooooh the chronic" , then there are shows like those dating shows, like Blind Date, Fifth Wheel and Elimadate, saw one the other night, I should watch it tonight, but anyways, the other night this reallyyyyyyyy hot asian girl was all hitting on these guys like there was no tomorrow and she was talking 1on1 with this one guy and the guy was all like, "I used to have a thing for asian girls back in highschool but I was a total geek,," I'm all yelling at the TV, nononono don't say that, she is a sl*t, SHE IS A SL*T!!!! but the guy ended up not getting to hook up with her, man she looked a lot like Kobe Tai, I wonder if it was her, she said she was like 35 or something and she looked like she was in her earily 20s, hmmm, but yeah there are tons of stuff in relation to Japan, last night I was watching BET's Caliente and this comedian was all, "Japanese people have sex too, they just do it like this (slowly he got into a SUMO stance and after about one second he blurted out some asian sounding language, acted as if he was pulling out and bowed)" , some funny stuff.

Man, I`ve been living in Japan for a while now, I`m starting to miss all those US TV shows. Japanese TV is cool, but a lot of the shows suck. I miss those cheessy dating games like blind date, the 5th wheel, change of heart, etc.. I also miss like South Park, and the rest of comedy central. The real world, and all those shows on MTV and BET. Then you have classic shows like Seinfeld, News Radio, Frasier, etc... I even miss like the wack talk shows like Jerry Springer, Montel, Jenny Jones, etc.... Japanese TV definitely has some good dramas, but the rest of the shows are either cooking, or news. I guess that is what I miss about America......

Hahahaha, yea for real do your Japanese friends watch those cooking shows and everytime some dish comes on the screen they orgasmically splurge out the words, "oishiiiiiiii ~" that was f*cking annoying!, i'm like, "yo that's like squid and my left testie in that bowl of noodles, you can't be serious?!!?" , yeah whenever I'm in Japan I watch QVC or Shop Channel, it puts me to sleep, I like listening to the phone calls *drooool*

Yo, word of advice, BET and dating shows cause I bet you 10.00 Japanese won't understand the Jenny Jones show w/ all the 12yr old slu*s being sent to boot-camp because they sucked off all the brothers on their block in order to buy a playschool kitchen, the one with the mini-fridge built in to store all their minor-possesed 40ounces.

Of course, in Japan they have hundreds of shows that made it big in america, like they have a Who wants to be a millionaire with a little japanese dude that looks almost exactly like Regis, they are really getting into that whole interior decorating crap, like where they are under a budget and need to remodel a small apartment, or when someone is out of the house or remodel a famous person(s) apartment/small home. I also saw a lot of fashion makeovers which were really funny, like they took this fat Japanese kid and gave him like this designer cowboy hat that costed more than my car and a bunch of other stuff that in no way shape or form could help this kids form ya kno? They also have a totally different form of Cartoon Network, it's like Cartoon Network but it dosen't show any of the anime stuff and just played the really old cartoons like snagglepuss and jabberjaw dubbed in Japanese. It's tight though, Japan has a lot of american shows that (if they have a satelite) all you have to do is switch over to Japanese or American language, so I was watching temptation island with my eyes closed in Japanese *boing* , hahaha speaking of boing Japanese TV is crazy, I mean we have Showtime and HBO in the states but I was browsing the dish this one night in Tokyo and all the sudden (not on the porn channel) there was this movie of this guy in a spanish wrestlers mask going around raping all these girls like mcdonalds sells bigmacs, I was soooo thrown back, I watched it though, I kind of like how Japanese are all turned on by rape in their comic books, shows and animes, they make it out to be a good thing in most though, like a girl will be getting it forced onto her and five minutes later she pulls out a bottle of water-based lube you know? kinda great thing to remember, but I don't suggest foreigners to attempt rape in any country rather you should ask your japanese girlfriend to rape you, they will do it, fun stuff except when they have you pinned down and want babies, yikes.

"I kind of like how Japanese are all turned on by rape in their comic books, shows and animes, they make it out to be a good thing..."

Apparently the've found their audience with you as well...

"I don't suggest foreigners to attempt rape in any country"

Umm... duh? I think that goes without saying. It never ceases to amaze me how you can get off topic in your own threads quicker than anyone else...

Hahahaha, I don't give it praise in the least, I'm just saying I saw it a lot on TV, Japan has some crazy taboos and stuff I don't even want to go into on a public forum but yeah flowers in may remind me of Japan, there, now we are back on the topic buddy %%

remind me of japan:

-walking in the night city: feel like the night tokyo.
-sitting in japanese restaurant.
-walking around in japanese plaza.
-being surround by japanese people.

i have been in japan when i was 9 years old. i usually thought im still in china or hanguk (south korea.)

What?!! Japanese TV is the best! I thought that the Japanese version of " Who Wants to be a Millionaire " was better than Regis. I don't know how crazy you are about Japanese programs but that's what I miss about Japan the most. I'm hooked on those drama's and I loved all those shows that involved their music. To tell the truth, I don't remember the last time I actually watched MTV or something like Friends here ... Or maybe because I love how Japanese guys look? :x

As stupid as it might sound, I should have been born Japanese. >_>; Some people even think I have Japanese parents ... even though I don't look it? XD What I really loved about Japanese TV is when they have like everything said written all over the TV .. I found that so cute. Their humor is great! By the way, I didn't even have cable when I homestayed in Japan. There was like .. maybe 7 channels to choose from. I dunno. XD

But back to the original question, everything reminds me of Japan. My room is covered with Japanese things so it's hard not to think about it. I carry my Purikura with me everywhere, I'm always listening to my Japanese music, I always go to the Japanese market to buy Pocky and all that ... It makes it hard not to think about Japan at all.

😭

I want to go back ... !

Hmm, some fascinating points of views and opinions!!!🙂
What makes me think of Japan? My bonsai!! It sits as proud as punch on my kitchen table!! Well-watered and trimmed. My country has no real connection with Japan (as far as I know??), but we both share a great deal in culture and pride!! Two very different cultures, but two distinct feelings of pride in culture and a willingness to open doors for the willing mind!!🙂
Respect to all cultures of this world🙂 🙂

Every time I drink Mugi-cha or eat rice with ochaduke and hear Jpop I think back of Japan. Basically, Japan is what my life is evolving around. I'm studying Japanese intensely; I eat Japanese, listen to Japanese, visit Japan from time to time... But I guess that doesn't really answer your question, does it?

Check out http://www3.tky.3web.ne.jp/~edjacob/ it's got some nice features on Japanese TV!!!

I was reminded of Japan this morning when I was walking down a stairwell of a parking structure behind a guy who was smoking. I remember how I used to buy a soda in the smoking room at work -- it was a game for me, I'd hold my breath for the entire time that it took to enter the room, buy the soda and leave. Thankfully, the office itself was non-smoking.

I have certain outfits that I wore in Japan that remind me of being back in Japan. I remember when I first got into it all, I met this Japanese girl in my city, asked if she had worn her shoes within Tokyo and I spent like 30 minutes holding them, I think that whole obsession led to better "you know what too", well better, but with a lesser duration of the performance itself.

Mmm, ok.

My shoes.

I went to Jappie land last summer and only brought one pair of shoes. And I still wear them, but now i think there mega ugleee. So every time i look at them, im like, "whoa, shoes youve been to japan."

well, let me think...
I think whenever I talk to my Korean or Taiwanese friends and see them behaving, it reminds me of Japan. Of course I talk with them in English, though. But i feel their reactions are the same as my friends' in Japan. I have one Japanese friend here, but she deosn't remind me of Japan, maybe because I don't have friends in Japan around her age.
