What is the difference between ちがう and いいえ? Also, 何で and どうして?

I watch a lot of anime, and what I have noticed is that for sentences in English where you would normally say "No", they use ちがう, which I understand the best translation is "wrong". Which is fine, but then where would you use いいえ? I actually almost never hear the use with いいえ.

Same thing with 何で, which I hear all the time as "why?", but never どうして.

When you are asked "Is this wrong?" by someone, いいえ is valid as an answer "No(, that's not wrong)", but you can't use ちがう or ちがいます(a polite form of ちがう) instead of いいえ here.

どうして and いいえ are both quite frequently used. You just haven't heard it.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

If someone where to say something like "Do you have a cold?" Are both いいえ and ちがう valid answers?

Also, you didn't go into the difference between 何で and どうして?

This is really funny... right after posting this thread, the next episode I watch I finally hear どうして used!
