I was trying to figure out what 愛し合う was and the side bar said いとしあう
but when I type it the kanji options are not the same. I have to use あいしあう instead.

I can't say that I have ever heard or seen 愛し合う in the wild. It did, however, automatically pop up in my IME just now. Maybe the source of the trouble with the いとしあう version stems from the fact that 愛しい is いとしい and not いとし. Just a guess. Best to wait for Epigene to wander through and give an authoritative opinion on it.

Mike, "authoritative" is going too far...😊

It's only that there isn't any other regular Japanese poster in this Forum. (I've personally invited a certain person to participate and am still waiting...)

Anyway, いとしあう is not correct.
愛しい:いとしい
愛する:あいする

Like Mike says, 愛し合う is the only choice to use with 合う.

To use 愛しい with 合う, one choice is 愛しく思い合う

This is the reason for the strange conversion in IME.

FYI, IME is notorious for misconversions, even for the Japanese. Although I don't use it, many language professionals install ATOK for better accuracy in conversion.

Any idea why the sidebar would give wrong info? maybe just an oversight I guess Thanks guys! :p
