What are the views of Americans or foreigners in Japanese restaurants? Are the Japanese uncomfortable or do they not care? I would like to know, seeing that some here live in Japan or have been. Thanks!

Well when i was there they dint seen to care much... i mean i was effecting anybody. You just get some people looking at you abit. But its not bad if its some japanese girls.

Japanese people are just like......

well, people. You won't even get a second glance at a fast food place in a big city. If you head out to the country and walk into a small shop, you'll probably draw a few stares. But hell, I've been stared at in Kansas, too.

True about the J-Girls

I suppose if you don't go around looking like some gothic lolita cosplay wannabe, run around streaking naked, run around in the country side looking like Daemon Kogure screaming "Hell on Earth has arrived" or do anything that overtly threatens people or act weird, talking to yourself, laughing at nothing in particular, especially the Peter Lorre type of laugh, then chances are you won't be stared at like a person to be avoided...
suppose if you act like you ought to in restaurants, there probably wouldn't be any stares or shock horror either... :D

i think that the japanese people that serve you in japanese resturants get kinda irratated when ppl try to oreder in japanese. Ive seen people do that its more trouble than its worth unless your a flueant speaker of the language

I actually didn't notice any difference in the way I was treated from other Japanese customers. The restaurant employees in Japan were super efficient and excellent at what they did.

The only time I think they might mind was if a bunch of military guys went into a small resturant. Otherwise, most resturants, especially franchise places, have a pretty set protocol of what to say to customers and when, and they're not going to bother to make any deviations from this, foreigner or not.
