Recent developments in the U.S. have put the issue of gay marriage firmly in the social spotlight and on the U.S. presidential election agenda, much to the horror of the country's conservative groups. Melanie Burton sees how much support gay knot-tiers garner from Tokyoites.

I don't see any particular reason why I'd say no to gay marriage, but it will take a long time before the idea gains acceptance in Japan. The main purpose of marriages here is still to have children and heirs.

Ha! She's got that right. After all, the best move a man can make is getting married and having children in Japan. Japanese men are the only men I've ever encountered who really feel desperate to get married and have children. Why? Because having a wife and children automatically means more respect in the workplace.

I better stop. I'm going to get off on a tangent...

Plus if you're married (and wear a wedding ring), it makes it easier to attract girls and get a date. ;-)

Heh, that reminds me of that one Seinfeld episode where George wears a wedding ring.... maybe I'll try that someday and see if has any effect...

Hm, I think I read somewhere that gays are already very accepted in Tokyo. I don't know if that says a lot about the situation for that in Japan in general.
But I remember reading for sure that polls on the gay marriage thing in usa got freeped => manipulated.
Ah well, sooner or later, the stuff will be accepted. maybe rather later. *shrugs*
