こんにちは皆さん、
One of my friends has got chickens (hens) and I was wondering what verb is used for collecting eggs.
What I want to say is
Have your chickens laid eggs today, and if so ask did your children collect them?
Here is my attempt. I'm using 取る。
今日は鶏が卵を生みましたか
子供たちは取ったんですか
よろしくお願いします

I would use one of the following:

取る
収集する
集める
拾う

Or, jokingly:

盗む
奪う
誘拐する
かっぱらう

If you want you use に then you have to change the verb to passive.

卵は子供たちに誘拐させれたんですか。is more like ....were the eggs kidnapped by children?
Is the ます form of させる、させります? and is it often used?

You're confusing and conflating passive and causative.

Why did you choose に and not を?

I feel like I'm watching a blindfolded guy rummaging through a knife drawer.

Why did you choose to use に instead of を?

Passive of する is される

I suppose because at the start of the conversation I asked if the chicken had laid an egg today.
And I thought because I changed the topic to the egg that I needed to mark the subject doing the action of kidnapping. After that I lost it.

If you can comprehend all that "topic marker / subject marker" stuff you're a better man than I, Gunga Din.

誘拐する means "to kidnap". Is it what you meant to say?

Haha, I seem to have missed the "jokingly" part of your post! :)

I would also suggest to be consistent with the politeness level of the verb endings. So if you are saying 生みます, I would recommend the verb in the next line being 誘拐します (or, the question forms of such, as you have in your example).
And, don't be afraid to use question marks in Japanese either.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I can't wait to see the look on my friends face when I mention 誘拐する.
