I just had a great idea about something I could put on my mp3 player as opposed to just music. I could put some Japanese on there. I was wondering if anyone knew of some audio files on the web that might helpful for learning Japanese? Preferrably around the intermediate level if possible. But even something that in some way helps with any aspect of profiency, then it's good.

Any recommendations?

And what do you recommend as the best way to use that site to learn from? Dictation practice? Translation practice? I have nothing to test it against. ...

Listening practice.
Award yourself points depending on how much you follow.

I just have it running in the background at work with an earphone in one ear. I don't put an effort into trying to follow it - just play each section in a loop until I've a) Can understand it pretty well. and / or b) Am thorougly fed up with it. Then I go on to the next section :D

I have an Ipod and has put Pimsleurs courses on it, they are perfect fore me as a newbie and I have it on during my long walks or in the gym while on the threadmill etc. Great way for learning! But some times people will look strange on you as they go by and hear you speak japanese for your self. :giggle:

I'm not sure about whats legal etc. so I don't wan't to encourage it but I can just say that I downloaded these courses and some others from Direct Connect hubs. :?

the pimsleur japanese audio tapes are pretty good... we use them in the japanese class i'm taking in college.

i'm not sure whether they are available as CDs though... however, if you're not too concerned about staying on the legal side, you can download them on a site called Suprnova using a program called BitTorrent in MP3 format. there are 3 levels with 30 units each, so a total of 90 unit... and each of the units is about 30 minutes long... you can do the rest of the math....

either way, i recommend these. they have dialogs in japanese at the beginning of each unit, and explanations in english and japanese after that. each unit is more and more advanced, and introduces more words...

That's just what I was looking for, I was going to ask if anybody knew where to get mp3 files. I can listen to them on the train. But, Doh... I left my USB cable for my MP3 player back in NZ, oops :p ....just when I thought I was on a winner. I will have to get some to send it to me in japan.
Well at least I can listen on my Computer
