Old pine trees talk about prajna.
This is a well-known zen verse, which is a pair with 幽鳥弄眞如 Yūchō Sinnyo wo rōsu "Birds in the depths of the mountains handle tathata." These are common phrases as a theme of calligraphy scrolls used in the tea ceremony, meaning "Everything, even pine trees or birds, preaches on Buddha's teachings."
