Mina-san konnichiwa,

I've been studying Japanese for about a year now and have watched anime for about 10 years. I cannot, for the life of me, find a matching definition for the verb "to control." I have heard it in several different animes and I've tried Jisho.org and other reputable sites but nothing seems to match up.

Please, could a Japanese native give me a solid translation for "to control," as in to control a person?

Here is a sample sentence if context is useful for you:

"He is able to control a person's actions before their death."

Or something simpler:

"He is able to control the girl."
