Hi, i don't quit understand the following sentence. especially the de. Can someone explain?
吾輩は猫である。
 
Sure. Actually, "である" is equivalent to "です", but used more in written/literary language than spoken. The "で" here is like the one in "でございます". At least, this is how I learned it. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me!
