yea, it's pronounced as sui-ee. This is actually a noun. So, you should say, suiei wo shimasu. A verb would be oyogu.

From my kodansha dictionary, it says that 尊重 is more suitable for respecting a thing, like a person's opinion and 尊敬 is more suitable for a person.

Yes, sonchou translates best to things like respect for the law or human life in English (ie placing a high regard on more abstract concerns such as tolerance, dignity etc).

I realize this thread has been dead for ages, but since it still comes up on search results I figured I would still add to it... I would suggest およぎます for the verb "to swim" as it seems more common in the study books I have used. And as mentioned by Elizabeth regarding the "respect" question, I believe を is the proper particle since 母 and 父 are the direct objects of the sentence and not the subjects
