Just a little reference site for samurai swords through the ages.
http://www.hi-net.zaq.ne.jp/osaru/e_midokoro.htm
Watch out for the authors bias with phrases like "the samurai became corrupted" durring the Tokugawa era, and that fancy hamon (those wavy lines formed from heat tempering and polishing of the blade) art work was some how a sign of this moral weakness. It might very well be so, but don't just take his/her word for it.
Otherwise a good site. Enjoy
