Shippu-Rendo is it real or not?

I hear that in the 1600s, Japan had a Shippu-Rendo (a weapon that launches 10 Huge Spears). Has any one else heard of this weapon? Because that would be a sweet weapon to have, line 10 of them up together and launch'em... :D

Funny you mention it, because I recently saw a tv-programme on the subject...however, it was during the time of Medieval Europe. Some historians are studying the subject whether that kind of weapons existed in Medieval Europe, but are not 100% sure of course. It was like the Roman ballista, but very different...like a machine gun with spears instead of bullets, and a handle so the next spear was picked up and shot..
If they can exist in Medieval Europe, why not Feudal Japan?

Where exactly did you read about this Japanese weapon?

Well... I was playing Kessen on the PS2 and you can use the weapon against enemy troops. The Shippu-Rendo is described in the manual.

Very feasable, as around the Feudal Japan times ballista's, and catapult's had been discovered.

Yes, but the ballista and the catalpult are both ancient Roman weapons, as they both were discovered and built by the Romans.

I haven't myself heard of shippu-Rendo, but I can imagine a weapon like that, since they had one similar in medieval Japan.
🙂

Well in the game Kessen, shippu-rendo looks like a huge flat crossbow (that holds ten spears at once).

Also in Kessen there was a weapon called a ballista, it was like a platform with wheels and like 15 muskets on it and they like lined 10 of them up. (It looked really fake though, there was like a peacock feather on it or something).
