Hi all,
When the weather is nice, one of my favorite things I'd like to do is to listen to some vinyl jazz albums (John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Dave Brubeck, Sonny Rollins, Buddy Rich etc) on my balcony and have a micro brew or Belgian beer.

Imagining that I want to continue this when we move to Japan, I was wondering whether I should bring my records, or sell them and buy them again secondhand in Japan.

Can anyone tell me something about the availability of records of the mentioned artists in Japan? I know Book Off of course, but their website sucks. If possible, a link to an online store with physical shops would be greatly appreciated.

If those records are above 2000 yen each, I think I'll bring mine.

It depends a little on how many LPs you might be bringing (and condition of the discs themselves and the jackets).

(btw, do you have any Lennie Tristano? Probably irreplaceable if you do)

Not at the moment, but I can get my hands on "requiem" and "live in Toronto 1952" for 1700 yen each. I might go ahead and buy these then.

Thanks for the advice!

I'm not up on the mkt, and what things bring, or would cost, and you'd have to weigh bringing your collection or not (e.g., storing somewhere reliable if you didn't).

I gave up vinyl some years ago, but still wonder if I should have done that. E.g., I once had a copy of Warne Marsh's Ne Plus Ultra that I'm sorry I let go. Even if replacing it would only be a couple thousand yen now, it's the principle of it all.

Thank you for the site! Yeah it's always when you get rid of stuff that you think "why"..

This might be useful. Disk Union have a lot of specialist shops around Shinjuku, but if I remember right, you're going to be living in Kansai?

Thanks!

And yes, correct. Although I would also be open to other area's that are less hectic than Tokyo. I will be going two weeks to Japan this November, and with my JR Rail Pass I will be in Tokyo in less than three hours. I will definitely visit that shop! A friend has also recommended me Shimokitazawa area for music. Might go there as well.
