I recently asked this question in a thread, but as there are already more
than 360 pages of posts there, I don't think it'll be addressed, so here goes.
I have a question about "jibun", I know it means "myself." But recently I was
reading where someone started telling a story about another person, and it
was supposed to be from 300 years beforehand, but he says:
"彼は美しい 自分の母親をこよなく愛していたのだ"
And judging from the way the person he was talking to reacted, it doesn't
seem like he meant his own mother, but rather the person in the story's
mother... Is it possible that 'jibun' when being used in telling a
story about someone can mean that person, rather than the speaker?
