Quick question. Where there foreign classical novels translated to Japanese during the pre-World War II era? Like Count of Monte Cristo, the Great Gatsby, Le Miserables, something like that?

And does anyone know where I can find novels (foreign or Japanese) which became famous in Japan during the pre-war years? :?

Thanks :)

Many of the western literature works that are known as "classics" today were already translated and read widely in Japan before WWII.
I've found a site showing the list of the novels covered by the collection of 80 volumes published by 窶ーテシ窶伉「ナステ Kaizo sha around 1930s. ツ(ツ渉コヒ彗窶售ツ〜窶啅窶扼ツ)

Not that everything in this collection are still well-known, and many novels are under different titles from those we know today, still many of them are recognizable and I find them quite interesting.
