Hi, I`m an Italian 21 years girl and I`m currently studying at the Kansai Kokusai Center, Japan.
I`m studying English and Japanese and for the end of this course I`m going to produce a project about manga.
I`m going to compare and contrast the way manga are published in both Japan and Italy and I would like to quote the opinions of both Italian and Japanese people.
So, anyone who wants to contribute, please drop his or her name and any impression about manga he or she wants^^
I`m surely talking about Versailles no Bara and Uchuu Kaizoku Captain Harlock, but I don`t know if I`m going to add another manga, maybe chosing it among the newer ones.
All contributions welcome^^ (I`m going to hand the project in the 17th of March)

:( arigatou!!

Hello there!

Chibi, first of all, yoroshiku, and welcome to JapanReference. Hope you have fun here.

Secondly, I have a little bit of a contribution. A recent manga/anime, Super GALS! (GALS! in the manga), is something that I'm fond of. It's about a young teenage high schooler from Tokyo, Ran Kotobuki, who wants to carpe diem her life, but comes from a family of police officers, and so is groomed [obliviously] to be one in the future. It's essentially a study of living in Shibuya City, one of the most popular wards of Tokyo-to. (The avatar and sig I have features Mami Honda, Ran's rival and good friend, who hails from Ikebukuro.)

With 5 DVD volumes out so far, the anime has had a huge following. Both the manga and anime versions are full of energy, and every page/shot is eye candy. The characters are likeable/lovable, and it's very addictive right from the get-go.

One great site that reviews Super GALS! in earnest is here, at DubReview.com. Some sound clips are also on that page. Another great page is here. This one reviews the first volume.

If you head to my web page (click my sig), you will find a mother lode of Super GALS! shots. Just a few hours ago, I set up another wing of the Super GALS! gallery.

Hope this helps, and once again, welcome. 🙂 :)

I recommend the GUNNM manga (in english it was titled: "Battle Angel Alita", it one of the best mangas i've ever read... it is a cyberpunk story that take place in a future, and the premise take part with a big city floating above another one (not exactly floating but supporting by huge cables)... that big city rules the world under them and also all their garbage is thrown below...

the principal character is a cyborg called Galy (Alita in english) and among the others characters make a fantactic story about courage, valor and friendship... Yukito Kishiro writes and draws with a sensacional refinement

I highly recommend it 🍾

and remember...

Maki Forever !!!

for the guys (and some girls) jojo's bizarre adventure aka jojo kimyouna no bouken in japan, psx, dreamcast, and ps2 game (i think it came out for the famicom also, but forget)
it's very popular in italy also, because i remember hearing of a few websites, check below
plus the main character of one part in the series is a character of italian descent.
i'm going to dead link these toavoid any problems from the admins, but add an "h" to them and paste. good luck!

Sure! it does help!! I read the first volumes of Gals (when my sister was still buying it, and I found it good, even if it looked as it repeated itself.)^^
It was a very colourful (if one can say so about a black and white manga) story and Ran was absolutely sugoi
...thank you very much!!

Doitashimashite, Chibi-chan. While the manga version is indeed commendable, be sure to check out the anime. Here in the U.S., there are five volumes of the first season, with the last volume due in April.
