Breaking News story in Australia, the Australian government plans to spy on the Japanese whaling fleet using an armed P&O cruise ship, with a lesser role for the Australian Defence Force.
High-level talks have focused on leasing the commercial vessel, Oceanic Viking, which has a re-enforced hull to cut through ice, a crew trained for polar conditions and "super-telephoto" lenses to record the whale slaughter.
The ship plans to take video footage of the whale slaughter for an International court action agianst the Japanese whale harvest.
Customs and Coastal Surveillance will co-ordinate operations to monitor the Japanese whalers through an umbrella body, the Border Protection Command (using the Ocean Viking, PC-3 Orion aircraft from South Australia and other naval vessels such as Navel frigates and helicopters)

I can't post the url for the story just go to the Sydney Morning Herald web site.

This is fantastic news for future seasons, but it may be to late for the 50 Humpback whales, lets hope the 'Steve Irwin' can make the harvest less profitable.

This is wonderful news - it means the Australian government is planning to do something about the Japanese whalers, instead of only activist groups. I do hope that they can keep the humpbacks from being killed. Hunting migrating whales that everyone likes to see and waits for is too awful - too sad.

Japan is doing a scientific reseacrh in international waters so Japan is having the law on their side. There is nothing Australia can do about that. Australian government needs to grow up and get with the programme.

If you guys quoted Greenpeace you would have had some credibilitybut when you quote the Al-Qaida of anti whaling Sea Shepherd you lose every sheer of credibility there is. Even Greenpeace distance themselves from Sea Shepherd.

Yes, It will be interesting to see what the outcome shall be when it goes to an international court.

You would think all the trouble they are causing with their international friends would be enough for them to pursue proper jobs and end the murder.
