あなたをよく知らなかったし、Didn't know you well
友達になれるか分からなかったので、become friends from myself ??????
嘘の名前を言いました said fake name

I understand the first part and the last part but the second part I am not understanding the structure. "なれるか分からなかった" this is the part I can't seem to decipher the exact reasons why the conjugation of naru(to become)

"I didn't know you well and didn't know if I could become friends that's why I said a phony name" That's what she said it means in english but i want to understand why the structure of the sentence is like that and she is not a good teacher, just not her thing. :sorry:

I didn't know you that well and wasn't sure if we'd become friends, so I gave you a fake name.

Think of it as 'Can we become friends?', (_that_) I didn't know

In English, that's a stretch, so we just translate it to 'don't know if...' '~かわからない'

(Hopefully you understand)

Glenn!
