This was given to a friend of mine by her father. Can anybody give me a translation?

This is what I have deciphered on my own, although it still makes no sense to me.
.
I think it is combination of both Hiragana alphabet and Kanji. . I am positive it is Hiragana for RA, RU and SU. I think the O is a clever design using the strokes for SU combined with the right half for O. The strokes for SU are the same as the left half of O. I believe the last shape on the left is a Kanji, as there is no Hiragana letter even close to it.

Does anybody have any ideas?

I would think it is a two-kanji word, perhaps related to zen (a so-called zen-word).
The left kanji is 儔 (chū), I think. The right kanji looks like 宿, but I don't think that is right.
