Mount Aso in central Kyushu erupted today just before noon, sending dark volcanic smoke up to 3,500 metres high.

The first crater of Mount Nakadake erupted around 11:43 a.m., according to the Fukuoka District Meteorological Observatory. "No injuries have been reported yet," he said. "But I have heard that there were a few climbers on the mountain, and we are now checking on the details of that information." According to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, a party of four climbers was descending the mountain and no one was injured. Following the eruption, the meteorological observatory raised the volcanic alert from Level 2, warning against approaching the crater, to Level 3, warning against approaching the volcano. The public is advised to be on the alert for huge volcanic rocks and pyroclastic flows within areas of about 2 kilometers from the crater.

It looks like it's erupting today as well.
The weather is fine today, so there are likely to be many tourists.
I'm thinking of going touring to Aso, but the road may be crowded.

I went touring to Aso yesterday.
The Aso Ohashi Bridge, which collapsed due to the earthquake five years ago, was also replaced with a new bridge.

From the Japan Meteorological Agency
Mt. Aso: There is a possibility that an eruption of the same scale as the eruption on October 20th will occur.
According to the announcement by the Fukuoka District Meteorological Observatory on the 25th, there is a possibility that an eruption of the same scale as the eruption on October 20 will occur on Mt. Aso. Volcanic Alert Level 3 (mountain entry restrictions) continues.

As for the status of volcanic activity, the amplitude of volcanic tremors, which had been large so far, has decreased at Mt. Aso. From around 11:00 am on the 25th, the number of small-amplitude volcanic earthquakes originating from the shallow part of the Nakadake No. 1 crater has increased.
The extensometer at the Kyoto University main hall tunnel observation point has observed fluctuations that appear to be the expansion of the shallow part of the Nakadake crater.
These facts suggest an increase in pressure in the shallow part of the Nakadake crater, and it is possible that an eruption of the same scale as the eruption on October 20 will occur.
