Hello everyone,

I work in Japan as an English teacher. My degree is in music so not related to I.T at all, and my work experience back home in the UK is a mixture of HR, office administration and customer service.

I am studying Japanese to boost my efforts of finding a non-teaching job in Japan next year and I wondered if it is worth studying coding. I have started learning how to code with Python and I am really enjoying it, but to be honest if it adds little to no chance of me being hired by a company here then I would rather quit and simply devote all my spare time to learning Japanese.

PS. I passed JLPT 2 this summer but am no way near comfortable enough to speak Japanese in a business setting.

Thanks!

Congratulations on JLPT 2!

I don't know what the typical entry qualifications are for IT in Japan, but I'd think you'd want to work towards develop a portfolio of websites, programs, or apps you've written that are being used by organizations. For example, you could develop websites for local hobby groups, churches, etc.
