someone told me the other day that hide (the dead one) is pronounced he-day (ヒデ). all this time i had been reading it the same as hyde (the alive one). i really dont know much about how to pronounce these things...

Wanna know something funny? When I first heard of L'Arc, I called Hyde "he-day", and couldn't stop saying it that way for the longest time XD

i thought Hyde was pronounced "hai-do" as i've read on a website. and i have no clue how to pronounce hide, i've always calle him just "hide".

anyways, from what i've read and learned from french class, L'arc~en~Ciel means "the arc in sky" and it means rainbow (and it's also translated "rainbow" in chinese). Dir en Grey means Coin-in-grey. "Dir" is German for coin, "en" means "in" from french, and "grey" is just english.

hide I've been told is pronounced like high-day (hai-deh whichever), while hyde is actually pronounced like "hai-doh" or at least by his Japanese fans, since they apparently have difficulty saying that.

That's what I've heard.

My japanese friend Marie has only been in the US for three years, and L'Arc~en~Ciel has been her favorite band for a loooong time. She pronounces Hyde as just plain old "hide". Go figure.

Hyde = Hide. Hide and go seek.
hide - hideto. Pronounced like you're supposed to pronounced a Japanese name like hideto, heedeh.

ya it seems that Dir=you, but there's an awfully lot of people who says Dir en Grey= (Sliver)Coin in grey, or grey (silver)coin. doesn't make much sense. Same with mana's store, "Moi meme Moitie"(me same half)

I know that this thread is mad old, but i quote from wikipedia
"According to guitarist Kaoru, the name "Dir en grey" was chosen because it "sounded right," and is composed of words from several languages, so that people would not be able to attach a specific meaning to it other than the band's name itself."

👍
