I was wondering... what is the origin of the Kimono... and can just anybody wear one, or are they just for specific people?
And is it pronounced Kim-oh-no?
I heard somebody pronounce it Kim-un-o and it really annoyed me.

I have no idea what the origin of the kimono is (I'm assuming you're talking about women's wear here), but I can tell you that anyone can wear one at all.

The biggest "rule" to keep in mind is that single women wear the type with long "sleeves" whereas married women wear the type with short "sleeves".

It's pronounced "ki-mo-no"

I've found a very interesting website about the history of kimono.
Kimono means Japanese traditional clothes.
Each page gives a brief explanation - unfortunately only in Japanese language - but at the bottom of the page it has links to the images showing some of the typical kimono of the period.
I don't have time to translate those explanation, but just taking a look at those images might be interesting for you.
