Hey guys,
I'm an Australian who just got back from a great month long trip to Japan and I massively fell in love with the country. Now that I'm back in Aus, though, I find I want to keep up with Japanese news and current events, but apparently all the Japanese papers have a political affiliation?
I can't remember where I read this, but apparently the Yomiuri Shimbun is right wing, the Asahi Shimbun is left wing and most papers have some kind of political bias. Basically what I'm asking is what do you guys read for your English language Japanese news that's relatively free of obvious bias or spin? I like my news without that kinda stuff
Any help would be great
Cheers

You don't have anything to worry about in Japanese news stories !!! 👍
Newspapers rarely, if ever, pursue and carry out out an independent agenda. The "Big Three" actually all present the news in the same factual and neutral manner with few opinions included, save perhaps a statement or two by government officials.

If there are some slight variation in terms of story selection, choice of language or emphasis on a particular aspect of the story they will be virtually undetectable in the English language versions anyway.

I agree ! Japanese print press errors in the direction of conformity but at least it is a focus on straightforward reporting. American sources don't even always cite sources representing two sides to an issue anymore.
