Hello everyone

I am a music lover myself of both indies Japanese and Swedish music... Even though these two countries are so different, they share the same culture in terms of the indie music scene and its promotion. There is a certain correspondence between them. Do you agree with that? Do you know if Japanese indie music is popular in Sweden, or do you know if the Swedish indie scene is popular in Japan? Since this is sth that interests me a lot, any opinions or information would be valuable.

Cheers, E. x

really? o_O

we do have a few clubs in my city (Malmテカ) that play some japanese indie all the time.. but they're pretty ehmm.. underground :p

not exactly what i'd call popular..
But I did find my favourite hardrock band there on their euro-tour when they came to Sweden.. Mono ^^ yeah, they're japanese...

Guess I'm not really all that into the indie scene =/ sorry

One thing is sure, Japanese metal will never top the Swedish scene, in my opinion at least

what swedish metal are you thining about? in flames and stuff like that?

because it's norway that's famous for the death metal...

I'd say Millencolin holds the punk crown so hard we've got that one covered on them alone ;)

other than that all we do is shoot out tones of crappy pop music.. as if abba wasnt bad enough they went and spawned abba-teens.. (or a-teens as they were later known as)

actually norway is more famous for black metal ie emperor, darkthrone, immortal etc.

sweden is probably the the home of death metal as they have spawned the likes of entombed, dismember, in flames, dark tranquility, the haunted, at the gates...this list can go on. sweden is also responsible for the gothenberg sound championed by both in flames and dark tranquility. i do know that they have a pretty descent punk scene, but i never really had much time to really research it.

japan's metal scene i am still learning about. i have heard quite a bit of undergound stuff and most of it is really good. the problem with these bands is that there is no real exposure outside of japan unless they are signed to a bigger label. thank god for the web and forums like these.

Japanese music i believe is better :)

i have not listened to swedish music nor do i plan to.
the reason for this am not interested in swedish music am interested in japan and with this package i to listen to japanese music.

..i wanna move to sweden. :x underground or not, they're still something and that's just one more thing telling that in sweden j-music seems to be more known than in finland. :F

look i like Japanese music, but there is no way that Japanese metal can top the met al from Scandanavia!

Children of Bodon
In Flames
Norther
Nightwish
Dissection
Immortal

they are the gods of metal!

I forget wether its norway, finland or sweden, but the death metal bands over there all try to murder each other to be more satanic dont they?

What should I say... swedish music hm... omg eh...maybe ell- The Hives -oh that's just one band but I like them. I love Japan and J-rock (especially Dir en Grey)...

to be honest i dont like swedish metal/rock i think its a copy of american Glam Rock from the 80s i prefer japanese, german musik japanese visual kei is soo cool and german synth rock and synth msuik is soo freeking good but thats just my opinion and musik taste is from person to person and swedish metal suck テЛG.

that would be norway.. they're like the worlds centre for death metal.

There's not really any difference between the Swedish and Norwegian death metal scenes, Norway might be more known because of bigger names. In the metal scene there's often members from both countries in the bands.

One guy in my class listened to J-pop. He was teased.

What grade? Kind of stupid teasing someone for their choice of music. Can't remember that ever happening during my school years. (except for Heavy metal-asswipes who accepts nothing except manowar/Iron Maiden)

kjelli: Swedish metal. Glam rock? Eh? That's like calling Elvis classic opera.

Could you further explain this sucking テ、lg phenomena? Sounds interesting! :=)

Swedish music in general must have something since it's the second largest music export after the US.

Messhugah anyone? Does noone love them?! I think they are slightly famous here now, because they opened for Tool a few times.

I never listend to swedish metal rock before. Is it good? Anybody recommend a good band?
Here are some of my favoruite swedish metal bands:

In Flames
Dark Tranquillity
Arch Enemy
At The Gates
Within Y
The Haunted
Bloodbath
Diabolical
Naglfar
Opeth
Meshuggah
Hypocrisy

Then we have Hatephere, Illdisposed and Iniquity from Denmark. Great bands. Btw, I just heard Intestine Baalism, a melodic death metal band from Japan, they were great! Check em' out!

TwistedMac: Norway are famous for their Black Metal, not Death. Maybe you did think of the band Mayhem, the singer commited suicide and the bass player took some skull and brain fragments and ate it etc etc.

Im really really REALLY NOT into metal.

Japanese music is not big in Sweden, but there are underground movements, such as clubs that play j-rock/pop. There movements are really small though. Usually, people who are into anime and manga a lot starts listening to japanese music, as the manga themes and songs like that... but theyツ´re not really into the japanese music for real.
As for me, I love japanese synthpop and electronica, as well as kawaiiiii pop.. !!
As for the swedish bands in japan, I dont know. But Im guessing there arent many popular swedish bands in japan... Perhaps some metal band or something. Yngvie Malmsten is popular, Ive heard...

Swedish indie music (pop and rock) is good. People should listen to it more!
