Do they even exist? =D

My friend and I will be in Tokyo for 9 days in August (we've already gotten all the warnings about the heat/humidity hehehe) and I was wondering if any of you knew of really inexpensive hotels in the Shibuya area.

We're looking for bare bones stuff... we basically just want a place to sleep, shower and store our stuff. I've looked through many websites and travel books but was thinking that maybe some of the more inexpensive places aren't even listed in those mediums.

Any help would be appreciated!

Also, does anyone have any experience being Asian American and traveling to Japan? I've heard many stories about more "foreign" (at least, to the Japanese) visitors getting different treatment while there... but since my friend and I are Filipino American I'm wondering if we should expect anything.

I've also wondered that myself. I'm Chinese American and I can and have passed as a Japanese person to some people (including Japanese people). Now if I go to Japan as a visitor, I might look pretty stupid since I don't know anything if I'm ever mistaken for someone that lives there. -_-' Oh well.

Yes, Asian looking people won't be treated the same as Caucasian in Japan. Nonetheless, if you do look genuinely Japanese, sometimes it might be in your favour, sometimes not (if people expect you to act and speak like a native). Filipinos having a darker skin and different look, American or not, you'll be taken for a South-East Asian, and there are rarely advantages to that in Japan. Sometimes it may be useful to clearly show you're American.
