Dear native English speakers,
Would (a) and (b) have the same meaning?
(a) I would rather stay home than go out.
(b) I would stay home rather than go out.

Thanks in advance.

Same meaning but (b) does not sound correct to me. I'm not sure if it's grammatically incorrect or just unnatural phrasing. (a) sounds perfect.

Another similar form you might hear is
I would sooner stay home than go out.
I'd sooner stay home than go out.

and
I would just as soon stay home than go out.
I'd just as soon stay home than go out.
