This is the line I am struggling with:
暗殺者として生計を立てていた俺への話だ

I'm pretty sure the part leading up to 俺 says that he made his living as an assassin (past tense), but then I get a little confused.
俺へ means 'for me' or 'to me' as far as I know, and the の nominalizes everything preceeding it.
I can't think of how 話 fits into the sentence though, it sounds weird when I try to translate it in my head, like "The story/discussion for me is that I used to make my living as an assassin."
So would it be accurate to write it in english as "I used to make my living as an assassin, that's my story"?
That seems to lose the meaning of へ.

For context, here are the lines preceeding the one I posted above:

そういえば、Xはなんの用だろ
"That reminds me, I wonder what kind of business X had."
Yが呼ばれるんだから、何にせよ荒事じゃない?
"Since he asked for Y, it'll be something involving violence won't it?"
だろうな
"Probably."

The key is that the subject of the sentence "Xの用/business X had" is omitted. The speaker says "it's a story/discussion for me (= 俺への話) who...".
