Side note: I was surprised that my IME defaulted to using 頁 instead of ページ. Should I be? I just want to know for sure whether or not it's commonplace to use the kanji when giving a page number.

Anyway, this is take two of lesson 4's practice section, I think. I didn't do all of it, just a few choice sections. I'd appreciate any corrections or recommendations.

(I)B. Answer the following questions.

(Note: I just don't know anything about department stores, having never set foot in one to my knowledge. I've always shopped in "hypermarkets", like Walmart, which we more commonly refer to as supermarkets, so I just couldn't think of a better honest answer.)

(II)A.

For animals, you should use 雄 (オス) for males and 雌 (メス) for females. Never use these for people though, as doing so would be very rude.

I'd reword this one a little since the feeling behind 古い and つかえる is different: the first is negative while the second is positive. A "but" is in order to contrast them.

I) 1)

3)
What do you mean by すごい?

4)

5)
You can continue your answer by describing what are in the supermarkets just like your home below.

6)

7)
首が長いキリン or 体が長いヘビ sounds like that there are 首が短いキリン or 体が短いヘビ in other places.

8)

9)
You can also say .

II) A) B)
What is the question?

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys.

For animals, you should use 雄 (オス) for males and 雌 (メス) for females. Never use these for people though, as doing so would be very rude.
I was wondering about that. I thought I'd come across terms like that before, but couldn't remember or find them at the time. Thanks!

What do you mean by すごい?
What I really wanted to say was "cool" (as in the slang expression), but I had doubts about my ability to express that in Japanese so I tried to use "great" or "amazing" instead. I was trying to convey that I liked the classes and teachers I'm talking about.

首が長いキリン or 体が長いヘビ sounds like that there are 首が短いキリン or 体が短いヘビ in other places.
Ah, OK. That makes sense. Too much fluff this time, I see.

II) A) B)
What is the question?
It just gives a word for each and asks to describe where it is, so there isn't a question really.

Then, すばらしい is the word you are looking for.

Isn't the bus stop in front of the collage?

You can use 間 for "between". ホテルと大学のとなり is ambiguous since it can mean the left or right side of both the hotel and collage. I think the writer of the textbook meant to describe the position with three sentences, though.

(ぼうしは)机の上です means the cap is put on the table, not hanging on the wall.

For #5:

Then, すばらしい is the word you are looking for.
Ah, OK. Thanks!

Isn't the bus stop in front of the collage?
I guess so. I opted for something vaguer than that because it wasn't clear to me that it's actually in front (as opposed to at the corner).

You can use 間 for "between".
Ah, of course. I forgot about that one. So change that to:

(ぼうしは)机の上です means the cap is put on the table, not hanging on the wall.
Hm, I kind of worried that would be the case...

What do you think the textbook is going for with that one? Maybe just saying that it's next to the door?

ウォルマートは is not wrong, but ウォルマートには sounds more natural.
The rest is OK.

I guess so. I opted for something vaguer than that because it wasn't clear to me that it's actually in front (as opposed to at the corner).
Yeah, 近く also makes perfect sense, anyway.

Correct.

What do you think the textbook is going for with that one? Maybe just saying that it's next to the door?
Maybe so. Or, 近く works well, too.
